TheWizard14 372 Posted July 4, 2014 Day 1. I've practically been starving to death while make my way along the grass fields and houses. I plan on going to NWAF. Along the way I have found 2 cans of tuna but I seem to be getting taunted at because I can never find any source of items to open them up. I have been living off soda cans to have my "hunger" quench itself. I don't know how long this can last. Day 2. I am running low on Sodas and only have 1 left. I don't know what I should do. My vision is fading and I can't see colors well. Later: I am lucky and made my way to a tall castle, it seems on this map it is "devils castle". I have found 2 sodas here and it seems to keep my stomach happy for the time being. Day 3. I have made my way to the North Western Airbase and I am scavenging for my life for anything that can open up these cans of food. Hopefully I can find a can opener or knife around here. I tried using my pitch fork to open my cans but no such luck. Thankfully I found 3 cans of soda in some nearby police stations, and a magazine for my Sporter 22 rifle. I will try to see if there are any other cans of food and knives left for me here in the barracks. I think I heard some gun shots.... Hey what was that!?!? To be continued...
Robert Neville 59 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) Avoid heading to the military bases first - bandits set their base there. Go to supermarkets and houses in small/medium cities to take supplies. Police stations have a fair amount of weapons and ammo to begin with. Edited July 4, 2014 by Robert Neville

Most of the houses I find have nothing in it or just a hat.
jd85 13 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) In general, food and drink does feel overly common at the moment (to me) but i expect loot spawns will be constantly changing and balanced throughout alpha. I remember the old days in the mod where i was so low on food and struggling to find any that i was hunting zombies in the hopes they had some food on them. alsmir 255 Posted July 4, 2014 Berries + apples, learn where you can find them.Water sources: lakes, rivers, pumps. You can survive in SA without a single item in your inventory if your only problem is thirst and hunger.
BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) Managed to get myself health (fully energized and hydrated) yesterday in Berezino, which on a full 40 experimental player server had already been throughoutly looted. It isn't that difficult. Ok, I did steal a box of cereal from a group of Germans in the process, but cereal only goes so far. I have gone from fresh spawn to dark green energized and hydrated on just berries in under 20 mins. of course I still only had a flashlight for inventory but at least I wasn't starving. oh and the non-poisonous berries seem to grow all over almost every town I have been in. Okay, so now I don't know what to believe, are you even hungry at all? Does your foot hurt? Do you have weird lumps where you shouldn't?

EvilTigerAce 131 Posted July 4, 2014 (edited) I always have a ridiculous amount of food with me. I almost never eat something of my cans, I usually have about 6 cans, because I always drink sodas immediately when I found them. And that's often. I almost never eat something of my cans, I usually have about 6 cans, because I always drink sodas immediately when I found them. And that's often. I also always seem to find sodas everywhere in places that has already been looted. I don't understand why players don't just drink those sodas. Perhaps they subscribe to the erronous myth that sodas were nerfed and doesn't provide any energy and hydration. My exp character proved that myth wrong, because he has reached heatlhy in about an hour, mainly based on leftover sodas in an otherwise completely looted Berezino. Yeah, people tend to skip them because they have no room in their inventory. But I don't mind it, more sodas left for me! :)
