  1. From a purely cosmetic point of view, it's more interesting when you are travelling around to see the world around you, and to view your character and your clothing/equipment. It's also easier to spot items on the ground/shelves etc and the animations don't look as clunky when they aren't forced right in your face.

What is "Fully Geared" to you?

I consider myself 'fully geared' when i have clothing that i wanted, and my preference is still a tan tactical shirt, and beige cargo pants. I find that this combination provides a good level of cover when in the wild or in cities. Do binoculars still exist? My essentials for being 'fully geared': Hunting backpack A decent primary weapon (M4, Moisin or SKS) A decent scope Tan Tactical shirt (or decent camo) Beige cargo trousers (or decent camo) At least 50-60 rounds for my weapon (more if an M4) A decent side weapon with at least 3 clips (preferably an FNX) A morphine pen Some painkillers A few bandages A canteen (preferably two) Some tinned food and some rice
  3. I would hope that once they balance the loot spawns items like canned food and drinks will be much rarer. This would drive the need to forrage more for supplies (both in town and in the wild) , encourage hunting, cooking etc. I would enjoy the atmosphere i would feel if oftentimes the primary reason for killing someone is because you are hungry and you think they might have some food on them. There's still lots to come, but i'm sure surviving will become a more prominent challenge. Or at least i hope it does. The only threat is players at the moment. The new techniques for hunting, fishing, catching water in bottles, finding berries etc all create multiple options for staying alive, and hopefully those will become the main ways for people to eat and drink, the other finding cans and food in towns (but have it more rare) or taking it from other survivors. Considering there's still lots more being created, i don't expect stuff to be balanced appropriately for a while whilst they are still adding content.

What Do You Want to See When you die?

I'd be interested to see some simple stats. No points or score, Just something like "how many (ingame) hours/days you survived in Chernaus. Perhaps how many zombies you killed and how many humans you killed.
  5. In general, food and drink does feel overly common at the moment (to me) but i expect loot spawns will be constantly changing and balanced throughout alpha. I remember the old days in the mod where i was so low on food and struggling to find any that i was hunting zombies in the hopes they had some food on them.

    Sniping and Handguns.

There is currently a bug at the moment which is causing way more sway for scopes then normal when zoomed in. Particularly noticeable with the long range scope on the mosin. As someone else pointed out, a temporary solution is to bind two keys together for the 'hold breath' command which seems to steady it. I've binded shift and \ and can hold them both down whilst scoped and lining up a shot.

So.. Is this what its about?

Just unfortunate in this instance. Simply you wanted to be friendly, they didn't... You had stuff they wanted. It's a tough call, but sometimes it's not worth the risk in trying to help people. That said, hopefully this particular encounter will make you more wary and more cautious when attempting to make contact in the future. However if im ever alone and i make contact with someone, i tend to get quite alarmed if i am suddenly outnumbered. And i wouldn't choose to approach a group of more then one player if i am alone.

    Glitchy scopes.

thanks, works like a dream :) Been dreadful trying to compensate for it and practically made shooting from a distance impossible. Happily hit somebody from about 300m yesterday with the LRS.

Where did YOU find an AKM

I killed someone for mine. In fact, they deserved it. I was held up on top of an apartment building in berizno and someone was at the bottom of the ladder shooting up at us. After a 15-20 minute standoff (during which they wasted lots of ammunition), they appeared to log out, and then a few moments later appeared on the rooftop with us (still in the logging in animation) so we shot them immediately. Turned out they had a AKM with pristine attachments, 5 fully loaded ammo drums and two ammo crates of loose SKS/AKM ammo. Am surprised someone with that much gear would ghost to try and kill someone and risk losing it all. There was only one way onto the roof and we were covering the ladder, so they must have logged out, joined another server, got to what they deemed would be a vantage point behind us, and logged back in. Fortunately there were two of us, one covering the ladder, the other watching the surrounding area.
  10. I would quite like to see some kind of 'ingame' counter so that you can see how many ingame hours/minutes you have survived for. I don't require a rankings table or anything, just curious to know how long this paticular character has been roaming the world of DayZ before they unfortunately died. I guess it would also be satisfying to be shown the amount of time a player has survived if you check their body too, but not sure how it would be implemented.

    Kill on sight reasoning

As always (and i dont see it changing) if you are well kitted you have nothing to gain by trying to trust someone and everything to lose. For the most part now, i am KOS if someone has a gun. I've tried making contact several times only to be shot immediately. If they have melee weapons i may let them live (if they have seen me) depending on if they seem aggressive or not. However if i am looting a down and someone else is there looting, i will try and kill them. Why let them go their own way when they could potentially find a weapon any moment and turn it on me? I enjoy teaming up where possible, but very few people afford me the chance.

    I've got a problem

Am not sure what the issue is here. It normally takes your steam name (which you can set to whatever you want) and now you customise it to be something different on the DayZ landing page when you launch the game (bottom right) and that name will display ingame. Also, it has been reported via bug tracker that your character will reset whenever you switch to a new server (for the most part) so the best thing you can do is find a suitable server and save it in your favourites. Re-visiting that same server should maintain your existing character.

    Post Your Gear So Far

Everyone seems to go for the TSsKO (or whatever they are) trousers and jacket but in my opinion there are much better options if you are looking to blend in. My latest character (who was wiped last night when i joined a new server) was sporting Olive Cargo Pants and a Tan tactical shirt. Those two go together wonderfully and when travelling around with a teammate (who was wearing TSsKO stuff) he constantly lost sight of me, it even blends in fairly well around buildings. Is definitely what im seeking again and will stick a photo up if i get it him back the way he was.
  14. That's all i need to know. Temporary solution.
  15. occasional loot on zombie corpses would be good, and give an incentive to engage them if its safe to do so.
