Why low Fps

I dont know how games are made and I dont care either I just want to play them but how can I run FarCry3 maxed, BF3 almost maxed (Not interested in Bf4 so no idea what i can do on there) Skyrim maxed world of warcraft although not very good graphics but always a lot going on in a raid and what not, even an old game Just cause 2 which was a huge map with fantasic graphics and not even a hint of frame drop yet playing DayZ on custom config for the lowest settings I can get without putting myself at a disadvantage im lucky to get 40 Fps in the middle of no where and towns are just a no go if you want to be able to see movement. Is it my side or is it the game?

The arma engine has been notorious for being badly optimized and demanding. Even 780's and titans have problems i heard and this continues in Dayz Standalone. Add a bunch more un-optimized city's and your frames will drop. I dont have the best system i7-970 and a gtx 670 but my frames drop to about 20-30 in elektro and i can maybe eek out a bit more if i lower my settings but it seems to make little difference if im on low-medium-or high settings. I was getting 10-15 fps in that new northern city so you are not alone.

 

Dayz is also an unfinished product

See, this is weird to me.  I'm on 3 year old laptop hardware, GTX 460m, and an i7 2630QM, and on med-high settings @1920x1080 I can get 70-80 FPS in fields, 50-60 FPS in a forest, and around 30 FPS in cities.

 

I do however, have a HIGHLY modified cfg.

I believe that 20-30 FPS in cities and 40 in a field is more than playable.

Then I can't explain why Dayz (and arma, arma 2, arma 3, albeit less) run much worse performance wise then those games you mentioned..

Well up until 0.44 I had decent performance in DAYZ SA but since 0.45, 0.46 and now also 0.47 I have a massive drop in fps, even in small towns. Sometimes the game freezes altogether for 20 seconds, dropping to 1 fps. For some reason since the latest updates it takes much longer to load textures. (8GB RAM, i5 @ 3.2, GTX650)
