DayZ Mod Only using 30% of GPU and 100% of CPU

Recommended Posts

Hello,

This is my first time posting on this website because i have a problem with the dayz mod, i havent wrapped my head around why my pc is only using 30% of my gpu and fully using 100% of my cpu using all four cores, i guess its the engine or its my fault. My problem is that i only get around 13 - 21 FPS because its not fully utilising my gpu. I have tried using all the parameters to start it up in dayz commander (-winxp, -cpucount=4 -exthreads=3, maxmem=8192, maxvram=1024) I have also set my gpu deticated frames both to 1. I have tried setting my settings up to high low and normal but its still the same. If anyone could help utilise my full gpu or increase my fps that would be awesome thanks :D

PC Specs

CPU; Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83ghz oc'ed @3.15ghz

GPU;Nvidia GTS 250 1GB DDR3 Superclocked

RAM; 8GB Corsair vengeance 1600mhz

MOTHERBOARD; Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3

Game is fairly CPU intensive. Less GPU more CPU.

Less GPU than a GTS 250 would be equivalent to drawing the frames on a series of Post-It notes...

Why are you using the -maxvram launchparam, if I may ask? Never had to use it, nor does it help with much, as far as I remember.

I got the same CPU as you do overclocked at 3.4 and a Radeon R9 270x, running DayZ with 15-25fps in cities (heavily depending on a lot of factors) and 30-60 in forests.. your GPU seems to be on the weak side (although as mentioned above, DayZ doesn't use much of that, I definitely had a boost when swapping out my 240gts for the r9 270x, on all games I play.

However I would recommend instead of investing like 150$ on a gpu, go with a new cpu & mobo.. but I'm sure you can get better framerates with that cpu.

On YouTube some guy said it uses your exact vram to take advantage of it

I personally just never used it. Try to get rid of it and set your Video Memory to "Default in the Video Settings.

Even though I wouldn't expect too much to come out of it with your setup, it's simply not a gaming-PC (for 2014, that is - it might be good 5 years ago)

This is sadly how it works. You have to spend a lot of money on this kind of stuff, otherwise you're outdated fairly quickly.

I think you know the answer yourself if you take a look at the money you will be spending with that build. :P
