Cooldown for Respawn Option

I think a cooldown timer like thing should be added to the "Respawn" option in the Esc Menu. It would prevent all these people from killing themselves over and over again until they spawn in Chernogorsk/Elektrozadovsk or some place near where they died, which I think completely defeats some of what this mod is all about.

Yes, this would be very nice. I've been in plenty of servers where I've seen 'Survivor was killed', then a minute later, 'Survivor was killed', and it happens about 10 times before Survivor eventually ends up at Elektro or Cherno.

I'll admit I've used this tactic as well, but mostly because my friends and I were having a little war going on in Elektro and the enemy were doing just the same thing. It makes things too easy to just respawn until you're at the place you want to be, and I have no doubt it's part of the reason the average life expectancy is so low at the moment.

Or just remove the respawn option and add a cyanide(poison) capsule that goes in our tool belt. If you want the option to suicide some day, pick one up at the hospital while grabbing morphine.

No no no. Respawning is useful for people who have got stuck in awkward positions, and would rather start a new life.

For example, getting stuck inside a building because of a glitch. Or finding yourself in the northern forests with a broken leg and nothing important on you, or spawning in the debug forest / ocean. Or maybe you're just bored, and want to start a new life. Respawning is useful in those circumstances.

No no no. Respawning is useful for people who have got stuck in awkward positions, and would rather start a new life.

For example, getting stuck inside a building because of a glitch. Or finding yourself in the northern forests with a broken leg and nothing important on you, or spawning in the debug forest / ocean. Are people regularly starting off and getting stuck in the first building they see? You need morphine anyway, putting the suicide item in the hospitals/military would make it easy to come by. If it goes in your belt there's no excuse for not having it.

Doesn't matter anyway, since no matter what they did people could just run up to the first zombie they see and let it eat their face.

Unless maybe, a cooldown timer per life. If you die within 15minutes you have to wait? But then people will cry about beach camping or "accidentally" clicking respawn again AND NOW GOTTA WAIT 15FK'IN MINUTES!!!?!?!?!?

I have the best idea, get the server admins to enforce some rules about not doing this. It's pretty easy to spot right now. BAN!

I'll make myself a little more clear... the respawn option is still there because this game is buggy as all fuck, so getting stuck inside a building or in barbed wire or in a floor is always a problem.

There's also the fact that not everyone goes straight to a hospital or military base the first time they spawn. Hell, I try to avoid those places until I've got some decent weaponry! There's plenty of reasons for not having a suicide pill; either the player doesn't know where to find it, or doesn't want to go near the places that have them.

Also, running to the first zombie when you're in the middle of nowhere with broken legs? Not an option for people who want to just start again, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to start fresh if you're in a shitty situation.

This is much more reasonable. The cooldown idea would work just fine, and as far as I know you don't need to use the respawn button to start a new life once you're dead, so people who've actually been killed wouldn't have that problem.

If you could only spawn once every X minutes, griefers would make it a point to camp the beaches, looking for people who JUST spawned so that they can kill them and force them into respawn hell.

Not really a ban-worthy nuisance. Frowned upon, sure, but it hardly merits a ban.

Frankly, I think the timer on the Respawn option is the best bet. Once you've spawned at the beach, you have to wait maybe 30 minutes before you can choose to respawn.

bad idea, it's hard enough to get my friends into this without telling him he has to run an hour before we can meet up for the first time. If people want to spawn near cherno, let them, its not ruining your game in any way.

Better would be to stop spamming my screen with server information like deaths, connection failures etc.

The option to respawn would still be there to people who spawned bugged inside a building or in the debug forest/plains or if they just want to start over but adding a cooldown would stop people from 'respawning' until they get to Cherno/Balota/Elektro or wherever they spawn and sort of encourage them to actually use the smaller towns. Running into zombies and letting them eat you will take longer than just clicking respawn and hopefully encourage some to just accept their starting point and actually use it.

How does this affect you in any way? If someone wants to spend 10mins of Respawn - Disconnect - Okay (RnR) Then let them...

Me and friends have had to do this on several occasions, untill they add some sort of spawn location option, this is the only way to make it easier to group up with friends...Boreing and annoying to Say run from Kamenka to Elektra to meet up with a friend, while in the process of getting eaten alive by zombies, breaking legs hoping over fences or getting shot at by bandits. Or to spend and hour to finally meet up with you pal, to then die 5mins later when just start the expedition.

Like I said this doesnt directly affect you in anyway...so leave it as it is.

Ideally:

Make the world bigger. Make spawns highly random and highly varied so spawn-camping is impossible. Make players pay $1 per life, arcade-style so they value each and every respawn. Have players able to spawn as a group.

Just add more spawn points or move them away from the coast. We're not all Robinson Crusoe. Spawning close to NW airfield? Sure add more zombies with 1.7.2 and add log off timer.

I don't think that respawns have any real issue, it's in fact necessary due to people who want to play together spawning on opposite sides of the island. The real issue, imo, is not the access to the big cities as the danger there from other people already make this a risk vs reward scenario, it's just that this balance is broken atm because you can simply log out.

A lot of things come down to this, PvP lacking in risk, people hopping and ambushing people over and over and also this - easy access to high yield gear areas, come down to the log off issue. Tweak the log off, not the valid mechanics.

So how this affects you "hardcore" players in any way? What does it bother you that someone wants to respawn near some big city? Especially now that zombies have better senses and are still a bit buggy specially on the hearing (i've aggroed a zombie 10x crouch running through the building and zombie was like 20-30m from the building). So you spawn in let's say on Krutoy kap which is nowhere near anything of interest, and you will still head to elektro no matter what... chances of dying on your trip are pretty much none if you're smart and run thorough forest, so you just have to run for 5-10 minutes and then arrive at elektro, cause you wont visit any small villages since loot in there is crap and there are milion zombies who aggro like hell. SO what you have there is just killing the game and not affecting it positively in any way.

Keep saying it, because it's a decent suggestion. One character per server, or ideally, a single persistent world (or single world per locality for the sake of ping)
