Rewarding non military gear

All the best stuff in the game is military gear or in military zones, high capacity vests, mountain backpacks, combat knives, AKM's etc.

 

 

I think there should be better gear elsewhere these places are cluttered enough with everyone scrambling for the best stuff.

Why not a filleting/skinning knife in some kind of hunting or fishing location? Why should a combat knife be the best for skinning animals when there are knives specifically made for that job?

 

They could also spawn the better hunting snipers/rifles

 

When the inventory/backpack system is a bit more complex military zones should have military backpacks with many slots for mags and mountain backpacks should be moved elsewhere as they're not really what the military use anyway, military should have the best combat gear, hunting areas the best hunting and survival gear.

 

Instead of the best melee knife, the combat knife being the best for skinning animals and everything else knives are used for, it shouldn't be useless for skinning but not the best.

 

Thoughts?

 

 

I think it would be great, people would almost be split in to factions, you'd see someone with military gear and know that they're probably looking for a fight since they're geared up to have the most ammo or people with hunter gear and know that they might be a bit more welcoming towards some co-operative hunting/trading.

Better way to tell the kind of person apart since currently everyone just goes for military gear since it's the best in all categories.

Well they do have the Molly-esque Sniper backpacks which are smaller than the mountain bp....tbh though Even Alice packs (which were the largest operating bag used in the Marine Corps while I was in) won't hold more than those mountain bags....Most "military" (non flight oriented) bags aren't really big at all....They'll def hold a LOT of weight, but when you have to carry something on your back AND be able to function in a firefight you're not really going to want a huge bag laying on top of you lol. Think even though military bags are smaller if this game implements a weight system they should be able to carry exponentially more weight than civilian bags that way each has its perks u know?

hunting backpack is better, just saying. 5 less slots but its camoed.

Debatable, it's easy enough to hide yourself in a bush those extra slots could come in handy, for a hunter that's another 5 sets of rounds or another 5 deer steaks. It's only better if you need to be camoed.

 

The backpacks shouldn't be a case of it looks like this and has this many slots anyway some should have better storage for different things. An assault vest is no place for a can of beans for example.

It's only better if you need to be camoed.

i guess you are right, BUT the camo can save your life, and 5 extra slots probably won´t save you.

I hope they would bring in the Czech backpack.

I liked that one the most in the mod.

Because you're concerned about PvP, a hunter who stays in the forest and actually hunts needn't be.

 

It's not like it's hard to spot someone running around with a hunting backpack anyway it's not an invisibility cloak it just helps if you're already still.

You don't really need that if you're on a hill aiming at a deer it's only good against people.

 

If you're a hunter and generally avoid people, hunting backpack isn't all that.

 

Reward for non military gear is that it's not so risky getting it and you can survive with it.

 

But that's stupid the military isn't going to be as good at hunting as a hunter they're of a totally different profession and so is their gear. The only ones who would be as good would be snipers not grunts with assault rifles unless they happened to be hunters.

 

The reward for military gear should be that you're a more effective killing machine which is what people go there for anyway.

Hunting you're a less effective killing machine(for people anyway) but can fish, skin and quarter better.

 

The military isn't the best at everything in real life so it shouldn't be like that in the game.

i have military tk gear not for hunting people  but has the base camo in this world - helps save me from bandits ;) i hope later will come up gear for the hunting pants

Well then the way I see it barracks and military buildings have too much good loot of every kind.

 

There is everything there, food, drinks, medical suplies you can basically live in a military base by serverhopping and never ever have to visit anything else.

 

Maybe drinks and foods should be removed from there along with medical suplies for the start.

That would be great too but I still think there should be gear suited to playstyles rather than preference.

You shouldn't need to go find a combat knife to get 100% steaks from animals when really a proper hunting knife is more suited to that.

 

The risk of military zones should be there for those who want to engage in combat and it should give them the greatest chance of beating others but for those that don't, living off the land should be made best by using hunting gear.

 

So you have a choice between combat expert, survival average or combat average survival expert each with advantages.

Or a mix of both, large backpack for food, sknning knife for hunting, assault vest for mags and hunting camo, if you're willing to risk what you have and enter a military zone.

I think mil. and civilian gear is pretty balanced right now, too.

 

TTsKO- & Gorka-pants <==> Hunting pants

Hunting backpack <==> Mountain backpack and vice versa

Actually, I'm not. I hate PvP. I play hardcore a lot so I like having a backpack small enough where I can look over my shoudler.

Well I wouldn't really class that as the hunting gear since you find it in military areas, hunting gear should be in hunting areas is my thinking. If you want combat gear head to a combat zone, if you want purely survival gear, survival zone. Essentially.

But with backpacks yeah that's the idea.

 

You don't really need an assault vest with 5 mags in it if you're just settling down with a base and going hunting.

Well fair enough but that's circumstantially better a moving target sticks out like a sore thumb no matter what they're wearing, someone who wants to lay on a hill and snipe needs a hunting backpack but otherwise it's just personal preference.

Fishing gear, rods, skinning knives, you should most likely find behind the backdoor, or in a porch or outhouse of many village houses. Should be common. Probably a good number of decent hunting rifles and ammo. These villages are rural .. country folk hunt and fish and prepare their own game for the oven.

Yeah that's the idea any of the villages away from the bigger towns should spawn this kind of stuff but they have to buy it from somewhere so they should add in the kind of shop you'd buy this stuff from, obviously a ransacked one with barely anything in it.

 

Random wooden huts in forests clearly going to be owned by someone who hunts their own dinner should have rifle and hunting gear drops, instead of just hats and stuff like currently.

i really feel like hunting and living off the land so far, is severely disadvantaged at the moment in comparrison to just  mil heavy KoS playstyle, for example, to hunt AND cook your food you need so much gear to do so yet certain items like the fishing pole for example are too big for most backpacks. so i finally catch some food by whichever source i can find, i got my axe and imma make me a fire OH WAIT i need rocks -__-

 

great so i either need to risk my ass looting in towns till i find random rocks (cos every house has a rock in) OR have a pickaxe on me, but wait, my melee slot is taken up by my axe for chopping wood, what a conundrum.

 

i really feel like the game needs to have a toolbelt and different forms of them at that, with differing specs found in different zones, because lets face it in the mod, the toolbelt mechanic worked out pretty well and isnt OVERLY unrealistic in terms of realism either.

 

hopefully to an extent camping tents will slightly make storing your hunting equipment a little easier and so on naturally, but i should not really NEED one of the rarest  items (that will be available) in game just so i can then hunt. i mean even fishing rods, ok so we can craft a make  shift one with ashwood sticks, but then, ashwood sticks last time i tried didnt fit in many bags either so we are left with the same player having not enough options to carry all that is needed to go out, hunt and eat in one journey. at least  if they had a "real" fishing rod in as well that was telescopic but needed you to find a reel and so on would be something.

 

im ranting  but i hope what im saying makes a little sense. guns for me  are a form of self defense in dayz, i dont try to find them to actively use them, but i like to have them IN CASE i should need it. if this game shifts more emphasis on to the hunting and survival and crafting as the  main concept for the game  it will do the game a huge  service as in a real situation like this, if you wanted to last a while, you would most likely be  out away from the source of highly infected areas, survivng off the land and trying to form groups in the name of security as opposed to all running to a bloody military barracks and saying to yourself if i see any human, animal and or otherwise infected anything, im gonna shoot ANYTHING i meet. which is currently where even i find myself NEEDING to be when i play at the moment when i meet anyone with a gun or even melee.

Combat knives are an all purpose knife, meant to do EVERYTHING. I love my Gerber knife, its all purpose custom made

Yeah I feel the same way, hunting should be easier than being a murderer it's much MUCH easier to just kill people and take their food than it is to find an animal, kill it and have all the things necessary to cook the meat.

 

Hunting may be a renewable option but it's far too difficult to make it worth it it can take hours just to get what you need for a campfire and if you get all the stuff you're lucky nobody has killed you yet. And then you need a knife to get any steaks too, in my 250 hours of so of playing I've honestly only found like 4-5 knives they're far too rare even some butter knifes would be nice.

 

It took me about 2 hours to make my first campfire because wood is freaking nowhere and every axe I found was too damaged to cut even one tree down and then after searching like 100 buildings I finally found a stone, yay. It's really silly, stones should be everywhere because well...they are, unless someone in Chernaus obsessively collects them they're too rare.

 

Fishing is worse though since we also need to find a shovel, that's either luck to find wood and stones or 3 different melee weapons you have to find to get what you need, not to mention the fishing hook, rope and ashwood stick.

 

Someone who puts the work in to being a hunter should be rewarded by having better gear for it over someone who's mainly PvP focused. They can have their ballistic helmets and mag pockets, I want more space for my meat and tools.

 

Combat knives are an all purpose knife, meant to do EVERYTHING. I love my Gerber knife, its all purpose custom made

 

Yeah but they don't do everything with 100% efficiency.

A combat knife wouldn't skin an animal better than a kitchen or skinning knife, either all but damaged knives should get 100% steaks or more than just the combat knife should get 100% something big like a bowie does the job just fine.

Combat knives should just do the most melee damage, they're what you want if you intend to fight but if you don't other knives should suffice.

But they don't currently, and they should.

Well I do think there is a need for more good non lethal or non military items. I for one would from time to time, like to just go into the forest, not risk my life, but live as a scavanger in Dayz, I do this now, but I always need military grade gear to store all the survival stuff I need in the forest. I think rocket should take al ook on his travel to mt. Everest, they had lots of gear with them, large backpacks and simply traveling gear.

If they add these kind of things to the game, a whole different playstyle would be possible.

 

It would also be neat if you could get most of your gear by hunting animals, like the Large leather backpack you can craft now, make some nice deer plet coat and stuff. Would look awesome, survivalish and you can stay alive in another way.

Exactly what I want. Right now for the best stuff you have to either be a PvP orientated player or risk getting killed at them because they all gather round the same areas.

It feels cheap to server hop or go on low pop ones just to get a backpack that shouldn't only spawn in a military area to begin with.

 

The game is way too geared towards military gear, PvP and fighting right now there should be two sides to the coin not one greater than the other.

 

 

I'd love craftable coats from deer, wolves, bears etc it would look so badass. See a dude with a bear coat and perhaps a bear helmet and you know he probably killed a bear...

 

It would be great for people who just want to survive not fight each other, you could be somewhat comfortable in the knowledge that a person you see in the forest is a fellow hunter not someone who will shoot you instantly. Of course trust nobody but at least lone wolf type players would have people to meet and exchange items with, with less fear of betrayal.
