You're seriously positing, that if the player count goes up (to around 100, by the developer's own statements) that every single deer stand will be constantly camped? That's unfeasible and more than unlikely. Even if half of them are, which is a ludicrous proposition, there's 50 left over. Even if 25% of them are, which is equally ludicrous, there's 75 uncamped deer stands.

If there's a 95% chance that deer stands spawn unremarkable stuff that can be found elsewhere, and a 5% chance that it spawns mid-range loot, 95% of those deer stands aren't spawning anything special at any given time. So why would it make sense to camp these, when barracks spawn decent stuff nearly 100% of the time and people flock to those much more frequently? I mean, it just doesn't add up.

I think you're seriously underestimating the significance of rarity.

No but the ones easiest to get to will be and not everyone is going to know where all 100 of them are some are going to be way more noticable a random one at the top of the map isn't going to be visited as much as one on the way to a town.

Doesn't really matter how rare the items are you don't know they're not there until you go and check and you'll have been one of many, especially if you're going round them all to look for the rare stuff is someone knows where they all are is and is going to check them all one douche need only wait until they get to theirs.

If any thing good or rare spawns there at all people will be desperate for it, especially since it's safe compared to barracks etc.

I would prefer nothing spawned there because why should it be there?

Who would leave hunting gear or even guns there? If it was outside a house perhaps but a random one on top of a hill...what kind of idiot would leave weapons there for anyone to find.

Okay, you are able to suspend belief and surrender yourself to thinking a virus has wiped out the world except for you and 39 lucky survivors who all pop up on eastern Chern, but you can't believe someone left a gun in a deer stand? I live in the south, it's yearly that you hear about idiots fall out of their deer stands and die.

Again, the "rare" spawns at deer stands would be mid-range. Not high-end. So 5% of the time, some mid-tier loot spawns there. Sounds pretty unremarkable to me.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

I woudnt mind if their loot was archery focused. Preferably high grad composite arrows, like the ones we have now, would have a decent chance of spawning. So, you could either craft some crappy inaccurate arrows, or try to look some modern ones.

And maybe the occasional bow, preferably traditional. Compound bows seem.. out of place in chernaurus.

Hunting gear and some weapons + scopes.

I really liked them in the mod, especially when they used to spawn military gear. Sure it was really rare but looting deerstands was really safe, nobody ever camped them (can't hide well and bullets easily penetrate wood cover) and if you were used to running through woods (for safety) you could easily plane your route so a couple of deerstand would be on your way.

Everything and anything, as should be with all spawn points.

Formulaic loot spawn patterns has always been the bane of this game.

First they must implement them in game!

off topic: cooking rice in empty can sounds even more realistic, or boiling water from ponds like in mod

off topic 2: in dayzmod 1.8.1. there is 50% chance your canteen gets ruined if you boil water at campfire (then must be rapaired with ducktape, which finaly has function)

The hunting items that spawn at deer stands should be primarily clothes, followed by gear (knives, traps, game calls, etc.), followed by weapons (CZ 527s, SKSs, Mosins, and whatever else they end up adding), followed by ammunition, followed by canned food as a rarer spawn

This is the kind of thinking I don't get. Why "primarily clothes"? Why would you find a pair of pants there?? Do hunters take craps in the deerstand while suddenly getting overrun by the zombie apocalypse? Or did the hunter just always keep a pair of spare pants there?

Jackets and shirts, okay, you might take those off on a hot day and forget or leave them there just so or due to necessity of flight. But why would you find boots or pants in a deerstand.

My list:

Common:

- olive and black tac-shirts, camo jackets, camo hats

- matches

- rope

- burlap sack

- food like MRE (alternately "hunters meal") or canned tuna

- water bottle

Uncommon:

- hunters backpack

- canteen

- map & compass

- machete & knives (the game needs way more knife spawns - you find far more guns and machetes than decent knives which is super unrealistic!)

- binoculars

Rare:

- mosin - SKS - double-barrel shotgun - blaze

- LR scope and PU scope

- small quantities of both 7.62 ammo (mosin and SKS) types and buckshot rounds, but no full packs (no snaploaders or clips)

- other than black and olive tac-vest, no military gear at all!

I might be missing something, of course, but all in all, I think this is what I can come up with

If there's any good loot in them you can guarantee they'll all be occupied by people camping and waiting for people to come look, it would be better if they were just suitable for hunting rather than being a target zone for douchebags.

Camping, however despicable it might be, is not againts sandbox rules and is something smart player have to take precautions against ie.not rush, but be cautious.

And as Katana said, deer stands are so numerous and should spawn anything good only rarely, which alone will hardly make them place to camp. That is mostly reserver for barracks, jail buildings and other spawn places rich in good loot.

I understand that you did not like the loot table, which at some point was done for deer stands.

I remember finding DMR there once, which did not fit much. Later they've changed that and I was ok finding CZ550 from time to time.

So what I want to say is, that you don't need to worry that much about deer stand loot. It most likely will not be anything extra crazy.

I'm a guy. I might mention that guys will take their pants off more often than you think. To get the pants off, the boots gotta come off first. If I got my boots and pants off, I would feel strange with a 6 slot TSKO shirt on, so I would probably just strip down to my t-shirt. Hopefully I got a few rags laying around to clean up any mess.

So let me get this straight. You take walks out into the treelines, find a deerstand, clamber up the ladder and take your clothes off.

Oh okay, I just read the part with the rags and I now know I don't want to know.

they should spawn hunter type things as people have already said... boots, jackets, gloves, knives, rope, matches, splitting axe.. things a hunter would use.

any kind of rifle or gun should be a super rare spawn.. who's to say some dude didn't shit himself seeing a couple Z's heading his way and take off running?

I always found that the mod had a very balanced loot spawn. The devs of the standalone don't want as much weapons in the stanalone as there was in the mod, but having such a big variety of weapons made the game so much more interesting, especialy that each gun had specific ammo, it sometimes forced you to drop you good weapon for a lesser weapon wich had plenty of ammo.

The standalone is good, but the should merge it with the items and loot system of the mod.

It is not ridiculous to believe that someone in a hunting stand, with a gun, was infected while standing up there. Now, gun forgotten, they have wandered away. Same thing with jackets, food, water, survival gear, and such. I have actually hiked into a remote area for hunting and carried a small tent and changes of clothing with me so finding things like that is not inconceivable.

It's not a matter of "plausibility," it's a game, and I want clothes to spawn there because they're just marginally useful filler. Not anything too wild, but still useful to those who're just getting started.

If you look at all the loot in DayZ, a ton of it is "implausible" to be found in its location (We all know, that all office buildings have a special room upstairs that contains a firearm...)

It's for the purposes of the game, not making the loot "plausible."

Just because that's how it is doesn't mean I like it. And I don't know what's implausible about a firearm being found in an office building, some countries have high crime rates - only it would probably be a pistol and not an SKS

By the way, if you don't care for plausible loot, why bother starting this thread?

Errr... because I want loot in deer stands... and don't care if it's 100% plausible or not... because I value what it offers gameplay? That's why I made the thread...

If you're willing to say that finding a firearm in an office building is plausible, then finding a firearm in a deer stand is plausible. You can read any number of scenarios into each, to make it plausible.

I want high powered sniper rifles in deer stands or other kind of scoped rifles.

I don't see how rare occurance of say Cz 527 or Mosin in deer stand, would be a bad thing.

Not saying you should get it from there all the time, I'd like crossbows and arrows more often, but every now and then finding hunting rifle on deer stand would be a good thing (imo).

While we're on the topic of "stands," I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a deployable tree stand being a looted item at deer stands.

stand_rightcol.jpg

Might be a little bit much having people in the treeeees maaan! But, high chance of falling to your death...

But what I'd really want, is this...

camera.jpg

Game camera, could be put up on a tree near your camp... could utilize a similar technology as the mirror/screen bit from ARMA III in recording an image of whoever raided your cozy camp site.

this is a sick idea would be really cool i am just concerned maybe a bit immersion breaking, unless a generator was used for the camera, its  alot of electronics

That Game cameras use batteries man.

They arent turned on until something triggers them. They take regular over the counter batteries.
