TEST_SUBJECT_83 465 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) I think the addition of hunting and cooking are amazing and have the potential to add a great deal of depth to survival in DayZ.But with the abundance of food spawning everywhere, no one really has any real reason to hunt or fish,taking up the inventory space and your melee slot for supplies just to role play,because role playing a survivalist or hunter is the only reason to use those mechanics really, at least IMO. I would love to "have to" kill an animal for a backpack and chop down some trees to make a fishing pole or bow and arrow to get my character started.That kind of gameplay is awesome!Yes I can do that now, but it is much easier and faster to just loot almost any house for food.I have a feeling that this is actually on the road map and will happen, it's just the dev's haven't got to it yet. I mean .45 was just released to stable so there is plenty of hope. So, am I wrong? You guys think it would be better if food was extremely rare?Or should it be a Hardcore only feature?What do you think? ☣BioHaze☣ 7337 Posted June 22, 2014 When I was playing the mod food was less plentiful and fresh meat gave you more health/blood than canned/packaged food products. It was much more advantageous and efficient to hunt and cook and stock your pack with meat instead of cans. First they should remove all this fruit, specially the Kiwi.Of all the fruits I could imagine being common in eastern Europe the kiwi is the last thing that comes to mind and with some given timeline we arrive in this world it would have all been rotten and eaten by rodents and insects anyhow.So please remove all the fruit, rotten or fresh it takes away the realism and immersion of the game.Replace those fruit items with things more useful, like tools (fishing hooks...) , melee weapons and clothing.Have food spawn near the coast where we spawn, but become more rare the further you go inland.Fresh spawns can still gather berries and apples to prevent them from starving. As the op stated it would force people to actually scavage for supplies and it would give the hunting blinds a use too(I've tried, no critters ran out in front of my stand). Have you never seen the "HIGH LOOT 30 MIN RESTART" servers? We basically have that already. If you don't like it just go on them. It'd be way better if server admins got control of things then you could go on always foggy servers for a nightmarish experience, always raining for a hellish experience, no ammo or gun servers(char reset on them), zombies everywhere servers etc etc. The variety would be nice. Anyway they need to...for lack of a better word, streamline hunting first it takes so long to find everything and you might not at all, for starters we need a renewable way to light fires because matches are ridiculously rare other than in piano houses, rubbing sticks together would do.All the stuff takes up way too much space too why does a fireplace kit take 4 spaces it's just a bunch of rags and sticks mashed together..Same with stones and firewood all the stuff you need takes up too much space to the point where you have to go dodge bandits at an airfield and get a big backpack when in real life you would have a backpack and plastic bags most likely for extra storage. This is true, so very true, but I just tend to avoid them. Honestly I think private hives would be a solution to these problems of "Easy loot servers" and server hoppers.
