crazykage 1063 Posted June 19, 2014 howdy fellow survivors of all playstyles! I don't know about y'all, but I am LOVING the new update. Some of my notes, observations, and general commentary thus far: Love that battle rifles like the M4 and the AKM are rare. As in SUPER rare. As in, I went so far as to server hop (Disclaimer: I've said before that I have done this in the past, and only in the beginning to learn the map and the loot spawns, and never allowed any character that had hopped to engage in any player-player activity, even going so far as to refuse to return fire if fired upon. I feel that justifies it somewhat) rather extensively and still was unable to find one. Managed to find all the attachements, including the drum mag tho. The new expanded carrier rig is a GODSEND, I happily traded my pristine basic rig for a badly damaged expanded version. Found 3 more as well, but none that were in better condition. Theres also some new camouflage utility clothing that has been added. Mil spec, not just another hunting variety either. A refreshing change for those who may be sick of the SSkO pattern. managed to find a crossbow, but only after a LOT of searching. Ultimately, I didn't keep it though. The rarity of the ammo, and the fact that it cant be stored in a pack, at ALL, (meaning it must take up the slot of your main weapon) makes it a not very viable choice atm. I would love to see this become a more common weapon, and to see the bolts be less scarce. But that's just me. I attempted to start a fire, but failed despite having 80 matches (the box was badly damaged). However I did notice some things: #1: Using the axe to chop down trees to gather wood damages the axe. And rather quickly. #2: Using the pick axe to harvest stones also degrades the tool. Also rather quickly. #3: placing stones in the fireplace seems to serve no purpose. Does it make the fire easier to start? prevent the fire from spreading? I don't know. Does anybody know what the purpose of using stones in your fire pit serves? Because it seems to not be necessary. I also ended up getting caught in a nasty rain storm, and got wet to the point that I was getting red warning messages about how soaked I was. As far as I can tell, however, it still had no effect on my character's status. Although this may have been because I was Healthy, hydrated, and energized to start with (maybe a higher resistance to damage/disease)? Can anybody confirm this? I was really looking forward to giving the binoc's a try, but thus far I STILL cant find a pair. How rare are those things? I observed one other thing, but ill save that for a separate topic, as it will require some discussion and further testing. What about y'all? any answers to some of my questions? Your own observations?
gannon46 788 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) i agree i like the rarity in weapons but at the same time you showed the fatal flaw in the design. they make things rare for a reason and when folks server hop its cheating sry to tell you but it is atleast in my eyes hence why they need to make it to where if you join another server you have to start over of course your toon is still fine on the one you were just on but if you join another sry kid you get to start over. it would also stop these bullshit clan loot servers i don't care if they pay money to do that folks pay money for cheat programs too and everyone hates that, in my eyes whats the difference i see it as a loophole to get past battleeye/VAC that's all it is. sry if you feel flamed i know your not the only one i myself have done it before. they make things rare and still folks find ways to get shit with in minutes rather than scavenging for it they just go to NWAF or balota etc then just hop servers till they find what they are looking for. if i was a bandit i would just post up on a low pop server in the mil base after updates come out and just wait you'll rack up kills quick I'm sure. what i think is funny are gamers are lazy especially in dayz they want cars because they are lazy and easy loot because we are lazy last time i checked in an event like this lazy fucks would die but in dayz u get ahead. While this would be the "end all" solution to server hopping, it doesn't give a lot of incentive for people to keep playing. If a server that you've been fully geared on for months slowly dies off and runs out of players, what are you supposed to do? You're now out of luck and stuck with nothing, simply because people migrated elsewhere.

Your own observations? iirc the crossbow was in the previous build as well. Binos as well, where they were very frequent in loot spawn, but they seem to have been made very rare indeed now, although I heard they fixed the bugs binos had in the previous build, you can now move and crouch with them. I am not sure, but I think placing rocks in the fireplace reduces meat cooking time. I haven't really experimented a lot with hunting and fireplaces yet, I have been saving it for when I begin tiring of the other new items in this build. Edit: And oh yeah you can resharpen knifes and axes with rocks, keeps them from getting ruined from too much treechopping.
