TyrDaishi 36 Posted June 11, 2014 Hey folks, just a little thought that just crossed my mind: With the new pathfinding and the incoming patch that includes more animals, how about you add cats and dogs in the city (non eatable/skinnable). The extra movement could spice up the fights and add to the tension that can overcome some while moving around. My friends got surprised by some rabbits the other day so I think this could really work. also: wolves/ animals that attack zombies and/or players I don't know if this was suggested before but if it where just delete my thread please.

pistaaaa 29 Posted June 13, 2014 ... cats and dogs in the city (non eatable/skinnable).Why would they be non eatable/skinnable? Is there a magical force guarding them?Players should also be edible and skinnable.
TyrDaishi 36 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) Why would they be non eatable/skinnable? Is there a magical force guarding them?Players should also be edible and skinnable. Animalskins: what would you do with skins so small? if you have a practical use I wouldn't mind. Eatable: given the fact that dogs and cats are mostly domesticated animals and living in urban areas the likleyhood that all animals that survived the apocalypse in those cities would have a very high probability of carrying diseases in form of bacteria or viruses or any kind of substance toxic for the human body. I would NOT suggest eating domestic animals if an shtf scenario would ever occur; source: I work in a company which makes a large bandwidth of biological and medical tests for humans and animals. In the dark ages it was common along poor folks to eat rats and small birds because of starvation and look what beautiful sickness this provided us with, killing nearly 1/3 of europes population at that time. I'm aware there where other factors as well regarding the black death beside the one mentioned. Edited June 16, 2014 by TyrDaishi

KingofTheWorld 44 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) The day i can skin and eat my friend is the day i reach end game. You can eat but what will you do with skin? Already even you take off your friend's skin you wont able to see it in game. (your friend without his skin) Even you take off boar skin , animal jsut disappering after you took off skin. Also even you taking off meat from human. You wont able to see even smallest scar or wound on your victim. Are you still getting excited about that ? Unrealistic shitty game > :( Edited June 16, 2014 by KingofTheWorld

Chaingunfighter 917 Posted June 18, 2014 I think it would be pretty awesome if you get the odd wandering deer strolling through the middle of elektro :PSomehow I doubt animals would go close to cities that are still full of zombies. After an apocalypse that just kills most people, that would happen, but in this instance there are still a bunch of people around, just infected ones who shamble around. Even if the zombies don't attack or eat the animals, they'd still shy away from the large masses of moving infected out of instinct.

Pvt_Larry (DayZ) 98 Posted June 19, 2014 So far as dogs go I think there should be a few different kinds of personalities involved. The first being friendly; a lot of these animals would be former domestic creatures, and so they would be friendly, and would greet/beg for food when encountered, maybe possible to make them your own? Next would be passive/wary, like any apocalypse survivor, these dogs would keep their distance from players and/or zombies, and generally avoid conflict, though they would attack if provoked. Lastly is feral/aggressive, which are dogs that have "gone native" and will warn off players intruding on their territory, and attack players, zombies, or other animals that get too close; these dogs could form small packs and might hunt small game. I don't know if this is unreasonable, at least in the long term. Obviously too much for the game in it's current state. Still, it makes sense to me.
