DevilDog (DayZ) 455 Posted June 28, 2012 I know things are being worked on in game for the bandit/reputation system and it got me thinking about bounty hunters.Years ago I played the online star wars game and was a bounty hunter. Basically when a Jedi player was careless and was seen too much he would enter the bounty system. BHs could go to a terminal and accept a mission and get the players name and a way point to the player. Then I would hunt them down and kill them. Very fun.So. My idea to use that in DayZ. When a player kills too many other players (especially if other players witness it) they become bandits and have a bounty put on their head. Players can then find a wanted sign with the name of the bandit and they have to try to hunt them down and kill them. Perhaps if you have a GPS it can some how track said bandit so you can hunt them down. Killing enough bandits gives you BH status, which is nothing really, but might get you some friends/respect and maybe a small award for killing the gym.Survivors have their survival to be judged on.Bandits have their kills.Bounty Hunters would have their Bandit kills. Capercaillie 16 Posted June 28, 2012 Bandits do pretty much the same stuff as survivors, only difference is that when they encounter another player, they shoot instead of turning 540 degrees and walking away. What have you thought the "reward" system would be like, I mean what would you gain from killing bandits and who would give you that reward? And what if bandits, who most likely try to kill people they see, kill a bandit that has bounty on them? They get rewarded ofc..?seems like a very odd idea so far, (not judging you here), but I don't find it any fun being able to track other players in the map in a game like this. Maybe just the option for different skins/clothing items. This would have be a double edged sword, survivors would trust you more and be friendly towards you and other bandits would want to kill you.A bandit killing another bandit would have no effect.I agree the tracking them down part would be the most difficult part to figure out. The Star Wars world is very different obviously, but how it worked there was you would have to stop and do a scan and you would get a WP of where the guy is at that moment, then you would travel toward that and have to stop and get another WP, so on and so fourth. You could add "tracking" to the game where you "scan" an area for footprints and tracks ect. They could give you the general direction the player travelled. Then after following that direction you do another scan and again find the general direction. This would still be useful without leading you right to him.I actually think certain bandits would enjoy this as it would bring players right to their doorstep, and those players would probably be well equipped. Capercaillie 16 Posted June 28, 2012 well, so far it seems anyone could track a player with the "bandit tag"?This concept seems quite hard to imagine in day z since there are only survivors. There are actually no bandits.Any survivor will kill a fellow survivor if necessary for their own survival.Have yet to see a single player who would kill just for killing, not for loot.Back to the topic:lets look at the following line; now we assume there are 3 classes in the game:bandits-survivors-bountyhuntersHere the weird part already is, since if everyone is ABLE to track a player who has a "bounty" on their head, there are no more bandits or survivors. There will just be opportunistic bounty-hunters == survivors. The concept would prolly stay the same as it is currently.shouldn't the bandit with bounty then have some kind of extra reward for killing ppl, since EVERYONE is after him, and knows where he is going?Making a few kills in self defence/just for them beanz would then practically mean you are dead meat really soon.I understand where you are going to with this suggestion, and it would be a good idea but in another game.IMO survival is enough objective for this game, so far atleast. ColossiClayton 0 Posted June 28, 2012 I love the idea of a bounty hunter system. I think it would be interesting if rather than pinpointing the exact location of the bandit, it would give you the time/general area that the bandit was last seen or the location of their last murder. This would make it more of a hunt because the bandit could bandit could move from the area to evade bounty hunters, or possibly find a good spot to ambush bounty hunters that are headed toward the area.I think that bounty hunters would be willing to hunt down bandits for their gear alone. But if there was a dog tag/proof of murder type of system in place, people could set their own rewards.I like the idea.
wordplayuk@gmail.com 101 Posted June 28, 2012 I suggested a very similar thing in the past, borrowing the idea from Red Dead Redemption multiplayer. So yeah I'm in favor of this by proxy.
vesmo 21 Posted June 28, 2012 Sounds awesome, you could get the name of the bandit+the general area where they were last at, i.e. "Windy Mountain". You would only get this information at certain time points. And to ensure players aren't marked as bandits too easily, only bandits with a lot of kills, say over 5, would be listed. Let's face it, if you kill more than five ppl, you most likely didn't do all of them purely in self defence.
