Lag is getting on my nerves

Recommended Posts

I'm getting tired of being constantly worried will my bullets actually reach my enemies before they move and will my punches hit the guy I'm trying to hit. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, but you can never be sure, and that's what sucks the most. I usually get killed in firefights, and that's okay, but it's unbelievably frustrating to die because of the game. Now for instance, I was in the north east airstrip with an SKS and went to the military building. There I saw like three dead guys inside which I couldn't loot. Then I went upstairs and heard shooting, and after a while I heard footseps. "Okay, don't freak out, this time I'm prepared" I thought, and went to prone and aimed at the stairs. Then I saw a head popping out and shot three bullets at it. Well, head went away and I saw bullet holes appearing in the stairs. Well, that's okay, maybe I have better luck next time. Then I carefully went to the other side of the stairs to see downstairs. Again, I believe it's the same guy standing there, I shoot at least 6 shots at him, and he ran away (or died and warped the other side) again. Fuck this, I though, and went downstairs behind the stairs. Then a guy appears behind me (When I got there, he wasn't there) and shoots me and calls me gay. Again Mukaparska was killed by lag or a hacker and must loot millions of houses to find some gear, only to be killed again by bad luck, lag or by panicking. I'm not really wondering why there's so many server hoppers. I can feel their frustration.

Also, finding decent servers is pain in the ass. I don't want to play in pitch black night, I don't want to play in the most laggiest server, I don't want to play with only few other players and I don't want to play experimental or hardcore if my regular character has good gear.

Take a deep breath, play something like The Forest or Dangerous Rays in the mean time. ArmA has always had bad multiplayer PvP, sadly. Things will get worse before they get better with DayZ.

But why is it so inconsistent? It seems like ping barely affects it, and it's only about pure luck do people lag or not.

I think it has to do with the change in client/server from how things were handled in the mod. So far, I think the mod/arma's way worked better but I reserve final judgement until the game is finished.

I've noticed there's a difference between servers. some are bad in every aspect. takes forever to join, changing item in your hand, using item/food takes alot of time ect. Some servers are however smooth and great!

Try UK  02, 03, 04. they are kind of good. alot of the EU/SWE servers lag/have delay. but not every UK server are good. it depends on how often they restart or how long ago it did restart.

id suggest you try a new server every time you play, and take a note on some paper about how much lag you get. maybe post the results so everyone can use the info!

I use uk 02 for regular and uk 04 for hardcore i think. but they're usually full. i just keep trying, until someone leaves. (on experimental)

I must admit, I am surprised the lag is as bad as it is. I can't even approach another player without seeing the yellow chains on my screen. Sometimes my character catches right back up and and it's okay, other times my character never really catches up, and I might even get a session lost. It stinks.

Rubbing banding is my biggest annoyance in Dayz. "Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in!."

I saw something about this somewhere. Path finding is done on the server side in addition to the client side. if they calculate different routes, the server side calcualtions "win" thus you get pulled to where the server calculated that you went. This is only a problem in experimental, i think its the reason why the current update haven't been pushed to stable. I think they are working on this problem!

Yeah, lag is my biggest grief too. I never know if what I'm experiencing in the game is actually representing what is happening on the server.

This includes:

- Order queue getting shuffled (automatic holstering of weapons, vaulting dance, prone-crouch-prone, etc)

- Damage delay (players going down 1-2 sec after receiving a headshot, often shooting back as well)

- Item operation delay (pickup lag)

- Many more issues

This is due to server design, not internet connection speed, and apparently is supposed to be fixed when the 64bit server architecture is implemented.

Then again, the guaranteed messages they added a month or two ago were suppose to mitigate the problem and we all see (or rather don't see) the results.

To simply put it, I'm not keeping my hopes high in the matter.
