energeticsheep 95 Posted June 2, 2014 Since it's clear you browse the forums often (judging by your significant amount of posts) I'm surprised you haven't realised that a pathfinding feature is being worked on for the Zombies in order to fix them glitching through walls, etc. thus meaning that the zombies will be more better. patriots20068@yahoo.com 100 Posted June 2, 2014 In the current stage, in my opinion, the mod is better than standalone because you got so many different options, more variety of weapons, more to do, etc. I can only play standalone for a few hours before I'm bored. I can play the mod endlessly (played Epoch for a total of 24 hours this past weekend). However, I do think standalone will be way better once everything is said and done. Element47 2481 Posted June 2, 2014 comparing the mod which - despite its limitations due to being an arma mod - has had its share of gameplay-oriented updates and polish (a salute to R4Z0R49 and the team at this place for their outstanding work) to the standalone which - contrary to the mod - does not focus on gameplay elements yet, is a bit unfair. of course it depends on your definition of fun and your expectations. but i would expect the mod to be more fun to people looking for a smooth gaming experience. which you should not be expecting from the SA at this stage of development. 6 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Multiple hives and mods will once again step in and segregate the community and leave the majority of servers empty except for the uber popular one that has zero surviving and is just a pvp bore fest. Loads of really good, stable and well admined hardcore servers were very popular in the Mod - look at DayZero for example. Hell, there's even Vanilla servers. Yeah i get what your saying, but that basically takes away the persistence factor of the game as you can only play on that one hive. Thats more of a dealbreaker for me. The game will be improved by having fan made mods and server admins will finally have the proper privileges without the worry of repercussions for kicking/banning exploiters, cheaters and other dickheads. The community is already in shambles with the post that Torchia made about not making multiple calibers for weapons. All that's going to do is force players to use specific mods to create the game they want and by doing that separates the community even more. They should have done a totally different map. I am all for having different maps but what I would rather see is them connecting maps together into one big mega server :D. Katana67 2907 Posted June 3, 2014 (edited) I don't think that really would work in a game like this :) On the contrary, I think it will be wholly necessary as DayZ progresses for them to look into procedural generation (talking decade here, or a potential DayZ sequel). Granted, with the current granular server architecture, having a different procedural world for each one would probably be unfeasible. But, if the server architecture was reformed to be more in line with traditional "MMO" server structures, then it would be appropriate. DayZ is in the uncomfortable position of occupying a middle ground between a traditional FPS server/world structure (i.e. ARMA, Battlefield, CoD, etc.) and an MMO-style persistent server/world structure (i.e. WoW, SWTOR, SWG, etc.) But, in being a "middle ground," It really doesn't, and can't, accommodate the full benefits of either approach. DayZ has never really been able to reap the benefits of a truly "persistent" and massive world. Eventually, I'd like to see us (akin to most MMOs, although they do have "shards" [which, despite Rocket's best efforts to describe, are not the same as "hives" when there are also granular "servers" acting as sub-worlds beneath the hives]) move to a one-server/one-world concept. Where everyone (the entire playerbase of DayZ, or at least a large chunk) is playing in the same world. To do that, I think procedural generation will be demanded to accommodate that many players in one environment. Otherwise, any notion of DayZ as an "MMO" won't really be accurate. Or, somewhat less far seeing, the map of DayZ will have to be expanded exponentially as to accommodate thousands of players. We're also getting to the point now, where procedural generation is approaching the fidelity of "hand-crafted" worlds. I love Chernarus, it is perhaps the most convincing video game landscape I've ever come across. But it does have its limits, which I think will start to show once they toy around with filling in the blanks of DayZ. I had a decent group of friends playing and one by one the chorus of "f*ck this" grew louder and louder. I've spent the last two hours playing by myself so I just started the process of rolling back to an earlier version. Seems like it's going to be a hassle too.
