The essence of the concept

________________________

Sleep in the multiplayer is difficult to create. We cannot sleep in a real-time in game. We cannot leave the body in the game, it would be killed, no doubt. But the sleep can become a valuable element of the gameplay.

The problem is that now the game has no global objectives. Once you found the food, water, weapons and other necessary things - you have nothing else to do. The game does not tell you: "Well, you did everything right, you win, good boy". You can just wander around the map, you can wait until you once again will need to eat and drink. Or you just will go all the kill for fun.

If we do not have global goals in the game, then at least we need a cyclic recurrence. It will not solve all problems, but this may be the first step.

The idea is that after we did all our business, we need to finish the day, to finish the cycle. We go to sleep and get some kind of achievement: "Another day lived through" (+1). And after a sleep, we need food and water again. And again we have to go get supplies.

Mechanics of sleep

________________

It should be simple and fast, like eating and drinking. Here's my version:

Terms of sleep:

1) You're not hungry, you do not want to drink, you do not have bleeding. In general, your health is not declining. Otherwise, you will not wake up ever.

2) You want to sleep. If you get enough sleep, then the sleep-icon is crossed out.

3) You are safe: nobody killing you.

When you sleep, you need heat. Otherwise you may get sick. You can use a campfire, tent and sleeping bag.

If you only use the fire, after the sleep your temperature will be low, because while you are asleep the fire goes out. So after sleeping you will need to start a fire again, to keep warm. Only then you can go, otherwise you may get sick. If you sleep at night, even fire will not save you, and you will get sick.

Sleeping bag works just like a fire. But it is not visible from afar and you harder to see.

Tent heats best. You can sleep in a tent at any time and tent protect you from the cold.

You can simultaneously use a sleeping bag and a fire. This is the same as sleeping in a tent, but the fire could be seen.

In order to fall asleep you need time. When you go to sleep, there is a countdown timer (eg ,30-90 seconds). The timer will be canceled if your health will decrease. You can cancel the timer at any time. At this time, your eyes are closed, you perceive only the sound. When the timer runs out, you will see the message "You have survived another day," and two options: exit the game and continue playing.

When you continue the game, you'll have a timer (eg, 30-60 seconds). You need time to wake up and come down. This timer cannot be stopped, you will have to wait. It is therefore important to choose a safe place to sleep.

Perhaps it is not very realistic - our sleep will take a few minutes in total. But it's only a game. Food and drink is also only takes a few seconds and we can live with it.

_________

Additionally

_________

If you do not sleep too long, there will be consequences (sleep-icon blink). Reducing the speed of movement, reducing the level of health, low immunity, blurred vision - depending on the duration of sleep deprivation. Extreme sleep deprivation - your character falls asleep on the spot. In the end, he might get sick or even die in their sleep.

You can not sleep if you have stress or elevated levels of epinephrine (for example, after the shooting, or after a zombie attack). You need time to settle down.

If you have a pain - you go to sleep at 3 times longer.

In the houses you can sleep without a fire or other means. But it is dangerous. You can wake up surrounded by zombies. Zombies can spawn within 5 meters away from you when you sleep (barbed wire can protect you).

After the sleep you need food and water. Make sure you have enough supplies before going to sleep.

maybe short naps, but I don't want to go to sleep for 12 hours.

That's why I get off the game ;)

5-15 min naps would be a good compensations.

I really like this idea as long as i'm not sleeping forever! 4 stars!

I agree with you. In fact, I only described the general concept, there are a lot of details, that can be added.

Love it.I modded my won stalker game so that medkits did not increase health but just stopped bleeding. Then I modded in that you needed to eat and then rest for 8 hours where in your health would increase by 1/4.No food eaten before you rest and hence no health increase.

Aslong as it is not more than 10 minutes, staring at a screen of your character sleeping. But yeah, I heard stamina was going to be added, so maybe sitting and sleeping would be a form of resting to boost your stamina back up.

Are you sure? I think I read that stamina will not be added ever.

I think if you sleep for a while say 10-20 minutes your bones should heal just a thought
