kingbritain 63 Posted May 19, 2014 Alright guys, I'm not ranting. I actually really love this game. The lack of content doesn't bother me. Nor does the high amount of banditry/KoS... More targets (lol). Nothing about the game bothers me all that much. My worry is that one day the full game will be out and by that point I'll be sick and tired of DayZ. So, my question is, is a break in order? Should I get off the forums, stop playing the game for like three or so months and come back later? I have other games, and I'm sure my family would love the extra face time. Plus, it would give me a chance to train for that 5K run I've saidI'd do for about three years now.TL;DR... Should I take a break?
kichilron 8550 Posted May 19, 2014 Depends on what kind of person you are. Been playing the mod for about 2,000 hours since 2012 and I am not tired of it. I always see myself coming back to it. Not even the other mods of the mods, I always come back to vanilla and still enjoy it. That being said, there are other games out there. There's no reason not to play other games.

Damnyourdeadman 1045 Posted May 19, 2014 When going to the restaurant for dinner always remember..."If you stuff yourself with appetisers, you will be too full to enjoy the main dish" It seems that you are starting to get worried so my advice would be to ake a break. :)

I do enjoy dayZero too as its basicly a cleaned up version of vanilla with somewhat better performance. loot rates on some things are a tad higher but none of this 50 bajillion baracks in cherno and 9 million choppers nonsense :)

Katana67 2907 Posted May 19, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I mean I've been playing DayZ since April 2012. And I take normal hiatuses, like I would from any game, but always come back to DayZ. I definitely think it's an undiscussed downside to early-access and the new found prevalence of "Alpha" releases, that one never really gets a "fresh" experience. You go from a buggy, broken, incomplete product... to a complete product. It's like seeing how sausage is made, yeah it might be fun on a bun when it hits your table... but it's pretty revolting what goes into it, and chopping up pig guts sort of takes the romance out of it... Back in the old days, you'd just get a vanilla release and it'd just floor you... blow you away... with how revolutionary this game was (or wasn't). Early access inevitably makes players cynical in the long term, and causes us to lose some of that nostalgia present with earlier titles that just released in traditional fashion. Whereas now, having played DayZ, a full release will be pretty meaningless to me (albeit a great achievement for the game itself). Whereas now, having played DayZ, a full release will be pretty meaningless to me (albeit a great achievement for the game itself).I see several problems with the "early access" model tbh (and please note that not all necessarily apply to dayZ, but they are worthy word of caution to early access in general) 1. As far as i know, steam has no restriction on how long something can stay in "early access". if developer release thru thier own site/file host, well obviously they decide lol.2. Even in countrys where there are laws entitling consumers to legal recourse or refund if a product "doesnt work as described/advertised" Early access gives developers a loophole in accountability. They can basicly leave a product in Early release, alpha, beta, what ever you want to call it indefinately, perhaps never finish it and tell you "we told you it was incomplete when you agreed to buy"3. It puts even more focus on "hype" sales early on, much like what pre orders did to AAA franchises.4. Again, with the option to just "walk away" the developer has already profited. there is no need to finish to get paid. it used to be if you made a game, and it bombed your studio was in jeopardy. a good incentive to focus on quality.5. As Katana said, watching it develope takes some of the "magic" away- and can lead to large scale burnout before the game ever gets fully fleshed out.6. Depending on the background (Ie series, evolved from a mod, or completely new) it can be rather devisive for the community. i see this alot with titles in a series or "reboots". veteran want "that epic game from 5 yrs a go in HD with no changes". new comers want to focus on making the most of what they have now. this is often a divide that never gets bridged. all of them fell they deserve to be heard on design direction for paying for it early. Im sure theres other risks associated with the trend too... totalbiscuit did a rather interesting video on the topic.... PhillyT 554 Posted May 19, 2014 I took a month off and it was the best thing I could do. I took a jaunt through Elder Scrolls Online, had a blast, then started watching a couple of Youtubers playing to get excited again. When my month in Tamriel was up, I stopped my subscription and started back up in Dayz. Love it once again. Take a little time off.
