"We don't want your sniper rifle!"

Recommended Posts

So today I went on a trip to the NW airfield to gather some gear, and as usual no one was there. I found a magnum, plenty of ammo and a pristine long-range scope. But as I was trying to be friendly, I didn't really want the scope or a rifle for that matter (less visible weapons might reduce the KOS on me was my logic), but I picked it up anyways as I thought it might be a good ice breaker when I met someone, to offer them the scope. After hitting up a small town I "naturally" found a mosin (when I didn't want one) and decided I would make some freshspawn really happy by giving him a sniper rifle even though it had no ammo, so I picked it up and put the scope on it.

I then ran south towards the coast to see if I could find someone to talk/trade with. Ran through cherno and electro without seeing anyone, and proceeded towards berezino. When I reached the solnichniy factory I spotted two bandits on the factory roof. I then decided I would see if they wanted my sniperrifle (I know lol) and went up the stairs, up untill the last ladder leading to the rooftop and started talking to them in direct.

"Hey guys I saw you up there on the roof, you don't have to be afraid i'm friendly." No answer. "If you want a mosin with pristine LRS I got one for you, I saw you were bandits and thought you could put it to good use (again I know lol)." Then one of them replied "We don't want your sniper rifle, fuck off!" So I told them I would leave them alone and went down by the lake next to the bridge and hugged the wall going east up towards the hill. At the hole in the wall near the NW corner i stopped and sat looking towards the roof with my magnum in my hand. I could see them run around up there looking for me and witnessed them shoot a freshspawn with an SKS, but I couldn't get a good shot on them.

I decided I was going to take a shot at one of them the next time they exposed themselves, even though I was pretty sure I was going to miss (looked like 50 meters or so).

Suddenly one of them crouch ran near the ledge, I pulled the trigger and fired a single shot with the magnum and he went prone like a ninja with cat reflexes. I thought to myself did I hit him there... nah impossible. The other guy was hiding and after waiting for some minuttes I decided to go uphill to scope with the mosin to see if they were still there. And to my big surpise I saw a body. The other guy was gone and the server went down 10 seconds after I confirmed the kill.

I then went straight to DayzDB to see how far that shot actually was and it said 41 meters. I didn't even get to take a screenshot unfortunatly so if you don't believe my little story it's perfectly fine.

Conclusion: The magnum is such a beast!

Impossible.  There is too much dispersion to make a shot like that.

Yeah i guess a 40 meter, singleshot headshot on a moving target with a revolver (not a pistol) is everyday stuff for the awesome people like Lipemr, but to me it was quite cool. And posting a video of people shooting at stationary targets in real life really can't be compared to how things work in Dayz.

But it should :D

Maximum combatrange of most pistols is 50meter in real life. I am yet very impressed. I believed the dispersion would deny such a shot. You got lucky and did well.

Not sure if you have done a lot of shooting in real life, but for an inexperienced, or only slightly experienced shooter, using an unfamiliar weapon, hitting a head sized target at 40-50m isn't really easy at all, especially if it is moving.

It just means luck was on his side this time.

Had he fire again the shot could have landed as much as 50 feet off.

i'm not telling you're not good, i'm actually quite impressed that you could make that shot with the stupid pistol dispersion that's on the game, congratulations.

I just made that coment because the main fanboy from these forums is already preaching around about his sacred game and how all it's mechanics and bugs are perfect.

Just try to make a group like the video shooting a roadsign in the game, then you'll see what i'm talking about. The pistols are as accurate as the shotgun... with pellets.

Well TECHNICALLY, the pellets are pretty accurate, besides the fact the dispersion makes it so you can't hit the broadside of a barn.

i'm talking about a spread pattern.

Shooting a pistol feels like you're shooting a shotgun, one pellet at a time.

Oh, in that case then yeah. Hard to hit anything at all, even the air in the front of the barrel depending on the quality...

That reminds me, not to get off topic, but before I switched to BF, I remember all the snipers in CoD would shoot at a 45 degree angle out of the barrel so you could hit nothing hip firing, but if you zoom in for a second, you can quickscope a guy across the map. Stupid game now. BF and Arma ftw!

Yaayyy! Another video of target shooting on a static range to prove a point on accuracy!

+1 internet respects for you bro!!!!!11

Video just shows what everyones problem is with the dispersion .

The sheer inconsistency of it.

nowhere near it, nowhere near it, oooo you shot him in the foot.

Guy had the same point of aim yet his rounds were at completely random spots.

He proves his point well he is demonstrating not user skill but the guns inherent mechanical accuracy.

Pistols are extremely accurate firearms the short rigid barrel ensures this pistols are only held back by the ammo they fire.

Uh, it was a joke.  And the point of aim wavered a bit.  I readjusted after each shot.  At 500m the slightest movement would be greatly amplified.

Still, super buggy.

are you mentally challenged?

i just showed that the weapon is much more accurate IRL than any pistol is in the game, that have nothing to do with moving targets or user skill.

As i said in other topic: The weapon will always outshoot the shooter.

Try to make a grouping like that from 50 meters in the game, on a static target, and tell me if you can.

you know that this video was made back right after the magnum's release, when it had 3x the m4's muzzle velocity and damage, no bullet drop and was as accurate as a mosin, right?

they got a BIG nerf right after that.

Not really.. 40 meters in real life is a very small distance.

I feel like they are doing the weapons just like some arcade game like CS would do them. Full auto rifles are spray and pray weapons, old semi-auto rifles are accurate as hell, pistols are inaccurate "fast" shooting weapons, revolver are slow and accurate, etc.

If Rocket is coding the weapons then come on son, you know better. But if you put a 3d artist to do them then I understand, I just hope Rocket would look at them ASAP.

Maybe you actually aimed towards a spot next to the guy's head and the dispersion guided to bullet for you :P

Yes.  I know when it was made.  I made it.

Seriously, some of you people lack even the most basic of sarcasm detection skills.
