Best way to pinpoint gun fire?

Sounds like a stupid question, but when in Stary and you are under fire in the brush, what's your strategy to survive and try to eliminate the threat before they get you?

Under fire in a bush? thats your first problem, you need to get some real cover, perhaps a car or a wall that you can peek around.

Now I am going to assume you are using 1st person only, like a real man.

Using Q or E, peak round the corner so you can see, but try not to expose yourself too much. If the weapon is unsilenced look for the muzzel flash, if it is just hope that person is easy to spot.

Once you have located your target, go back to cover, perhaps change position, and start firing at him. Just send as many rounds his way as you can to "supress" him, and hopfully start landing hits. At this point its really up to whoever is the better marksman.

If you happen to have a friend(s) you can have them flank the enemy wall you take pot shots and distract him. Many bandits will get tunnel vision, and your mates will easily sneak up and shot that fool.

To survive,i hide and wait for them to get bored and start moving towards me or my last location, then fire upon them

I would suggest headphones so you can tell the direction of the gunfire easier. The directional sound in this game is pretty well done, I like it. Usually I can tell which direction the gunfire came from by the first or second shot so I can either check it out or bounce if I'm not willing to get into a gunfight at that particular moment (usually the latter lol).

edit: or yeah surround sound speakers if you got the cash/setup, headphones are the cheaper alternative

If you're under fire at stary and you don't know where the gunshots are coming from, you're probably dead 99.9% of the time, unless the guy accidently blows himself up with a grenade or something... the game is all about who shoots first... the only way to live through this is have someone else spotting and looking for gunfire from an elevated/outside location. In fact.. if they are missing all around you, i find its better to get up and zig zag run than to lay down.. The few times i've missed people with a sniper and they layed down it just made them longer targets and i thanked them.

Turtle beach headsets do the trick for me.
