The Devil's Hour

Recommended Posts

It was late when it all started, when I began to have doubts about any success in solving my little problem. The sky was cloudy and somewhat angry looking and it had to be near sunset. I continued to press on to the west searching every house, shack, garage and barn in search of sticks for a splint. It was tedious, time consuming, and I would much rather had been somewhere else doing something else... soon enough I suppose. The pain in my arm had reached a point beyond annoyance, I'm certain its not broken but its not getting any better. I'm afraid I'll begin to attract unwanted attention with these frequent outbursts and my aim is in the shitter.

I see a long barn ahead and my spirits lift briefly as I sprint to the large open doorway. I pause inside to catch my breath then go about a quick search of the open floor, no sticks. Outside again I notice the sky is much darker and my search will only become more difficult. With exhausted determination I turn myself west and jog up the low hillside scanning the horizon for any place that might harbor a bundle of sticks.

As I crest the hilltop I realize that I have run right to Zelenogorsk. Sticks! Surely in all of Zelenogorsk I can find some sticks. It is at this point I remember there is a medical center here.... morphine perhaps. My mind having shifted gears with the fast approaching dark turns rapidly to the medical center and before I even realize I have abandon sticks I am standing inside. No morphine. Oh but there are garages right across the street near the water pump. Sticks!

The dark is fully upon me now as I open all the garages, no sticks. I make my way through the house with a piano in it, no sticks. Looking out the window on the second floor I can just make out the outlines of the camo building on the little military base. Morphine again? Maybe sticks too?

I'm thinking about the little base as I crawl under the wall and what other potential it might have. Never hurts to have an innocent look around right? I creep just a little to have a look down the way at the barracks and decide I should go have a peek at what might be inside.

Damn is it dark. I'm making a fast creep across this small open area when I run smack dab into something I don't recall being there. A quick peek with the light reveals I have just collided with a zed in the dark. Needless to say much unwanted attention was attracted by that. Things are just little bit laggy as I turn my M4 to meet my latest obstacle when the lights go out. You Are Dead.

Now I am fighting a minor coronary and major hissy fit so I close down the game and watch as Steam updates my game time.... 666

lesson learned, don't play on the devil's time.

aww thanks for the awesome responses, that was a really fun morning despite the fact that I lost a fully geared player - seems my endgame lately has been gear-up, scavenge hunt for maps (or some other bauble that has my attention), replace or repair all my crap that got trashed on the hunt for stuff then fix all the damage I take while searching which starts a new search for supplies/gear. I tell myself I should head over to berezino (cherno, electro, or...) and watch a gunfight or 20 as soon as I find whatever it is I am lookin for, but the search never ends, ever. freakin zeds trashin my stuffs....

to poster that suggested calling the medics, I was fully mobile at the time so I believed that my solution was just over the next hill or around the next corner. I had been telling myself this for almost two days looking for sticks or morphine (and people say there is nothing to do in the game but shoot at each other...) so it was only an annoyance but my char had started making noise about it in the game so it was time to get serious.

Powell, yeah it was tough luck but its all good - after my little fits over these things I just respawn and do it all over again with a smile (crazy grin really) on my face :) so I'm havin fun.
