1st person vs 3rd person melee

Recommended Posts

I was fighting three zombies with a pipe wrench in 3rd person I got about 2 hits on 1 before I thought I'd try 1st person and they seemed to guy down like flys (3-4 hits) instead of 10-12 at least is this the same for anyone else ?

Not sure but that could be the old 3pp up close bug....shot never goes where the crosshair says it will. Used to happen a lot in A2 with the guns, might find if you adjust your swing based on where the zed bleeds not where crosshair is then should work better in 3rd. Best bet is always use 1st for cqc or melee ;)

It's not really a bug, melee is supposed to function as actual melee in the standalone.  The point of impact is where ever the weapon connects with the target, not where the crosshair is.  They've made some adjustments to animations and now it does seem easier to aim in first person for some weapons, where as before it was easier in third.

First person for the win ALWAYS in third the cross-hair doesn't line up all that well with where your weapon is actually pointing.

I would just remove the crosshair all together.

It would make it easier to focus on where the object your swinging is going to hit.

The crosshair just gets in the way of melee IMO.

I think 3rd person is much easier to circle straife and aim since you have the leverage of view. On 1st person the zeds often bug out and end up on your flank or rear and you are then adjusting more to get back your advantage and aim. But I play on HC mostly and it takes a bit more practice. I can tell just how much easier it is on 3rd person after being on HC for a week and switching over.

The only difference between giving headshots in first person, compared to doing the same in third person is how high you must aim to hit the head properly.

In first person you can just aim at the very top of the head, while in third person you must hit about 1 or 2 feet above the target depending on the angle of attack. Generally the closer you are to the zombie, the higher the attack will hit.

Learning to do it in third person gives a distinct advantage because it allows you to get a better overiew of the situation, increasing the chances to dodge any counter attacks. It isn't as difficult as people may think, and from my own experience I can consistently deliver headshots in third person even when the zombie is moving around.

I too find it much easier to get headshots in first person view. Every weapon is a little different but with the fire axe for example I had to aim quite a bit high and right to get headshots when using third person view. Feels much more natural in first person.
