Walking Dead Zombies vs 28 Days Later Zombies

Recommended Posts

For now we have like the 28 day later fast agrresive zombies, but i think the walking dead kind of zombies whould create an much intense atmohsphere, slow walking in hordes randomly from city to city or just random throug the woods, surrounding you in mass you are also more depended on other players and second doors in the buildings. I think its just more kind of horror atmosphere to go around the corner and face like 200 of them.

What do you guys think?

I would love to, but you'd have to rewrite the entire stamina, fatigue system.

Slow walkers only work, if you can only run for very short distances and need to rest a lot. I'd love DayZ to be more like the browser game Urban Dead, where you basically use all your action points to scavenge shortly and then find shelter, before your action points are used up.

Definitely slow zombies, in masses.

I mean, we see that the few fast ones are not working at all.
The melee system is bad, just... bad. It's random flailing around, and would profit from slow targets (especially when you fight in 1st person mode).

Many, slow targets that are massed in towns and make looting hard, combined with shortness of food and everything, plus moving zombie hordes would create a threat to players and would force people to band together, once they managed to surround you, pin you down, etc.

Not quite correct...We have a cross between the "28 Days Later" and some paranormal hybrid ghost movie because of their ability to walk thru objects...

...just being a wise ass here.   :P

Personally, slow zombies do not scare me. They're shambling corpses who couldn't outrun my grandmother, and could be dispatched with EASE. Running zombies however, present a problem. You can't shake the fuckers without zigzagging through street corners. Even then, you'll run into another two around the bend. I remember when I was eight, when I first saw 28 days later. I was scared shitless, and from then on, walking zombies were sort of easy (to me, at least). Besides, Bohemia is going for an "authentic" bend with this. It would be more "realistic"(in the sense of, plausible, however insignificant), and Bohemia is about authenticity and realism.

I say keep em'.

thats in the arma 3 engine,i think SA is using a modified arma 2 engine. but idk what the SA engine has vs arma 3 one, if anyone knows? i know the arma 3 engine is tons better then arma 2 one, the sa engine is better then the reg aram 2 one, but idk how it is compared to arma 3 but its no arma 3 engine

when i 1st heard about SA announcement before alpha release, when arma 3 was released before dayz. i was hoping it was going to be on the arma 3 engine and was disappointed it wasnt. the sa engine is a lot nicer then the mod so idk how it would handle mass zombies but between all the loot and players and adding more zombies idk how the engine will do, from what i get from the devs they dont seem to confident in it, thats just me

hopefully they can find a good balance

but ya i see what you mean that would be cool with those hordes in towns or hot spots or randomly but well see if they put mass zombies in at some point.

Ive made a number of Zombie Maps in Arma3 (Z.M.S. and ZORT) and Slow zombies just dont work on Arma engines. (DayZ has only perhaps 5-10 zombies per town that now re spawn). If you notice DAYZ zombies break every zombie rule in the book. They are fast and weaker than humans. The traditional Zombie is slow and is hard to take down usually requiring head shots. Although The weak part doesn't make sense to me balance wise (probably because lack of guns at the start), the  zombies move fast to make them a threat. Having very few lumbering slowly towards you would be silly. In order to pull that off you need hundreds and tech just aint there yet although you may want to check out dying light, they seem to be able to somehow simulate hundreds of zombies at once. Regardless they are this way because Arma cannot simply handle more than a handful of Zombies or custom units at one time. Map makers have to use alot of tricks such as freezing zombies in areas until they aggro. Adding more than 30-40 zombies simply causes the arma engine to grind to a halt. And what if theres a number of players in different citys at once? Likely less zombies will spawn. If you notice in the above video, those zombies are like ghosts and have almost no AI. It is likely the Zombies become a Zombie when it aggro's - attached ai etc.
