nivek 0 Posted June 27, 2012 Not sure if this has been mentioned before (I did a quick search and couldn't find anything) but I think that batteries should be an essential part of the game. There would be nothing more terrifying than running around at night in the pitch black with just the light from your torch when suddenly it dies because you have run out of batteries! Also all electrical equipment should use batteries like the GPS, NVG etc.Could even have car batteries as an extra component to repair vehicles!Just a basic idea so far. Anyone got any suggestions?
bad_mojo (DayZ) 1204 Posted June 27, 2012 Solar panels to recharge during daylight only? I do like this idea about having to conserve and ration your usage of the NVGs tho.
nivek 0 Posted June 27, 2012 Yeah it seems to much to be able to constantly be running around with your flashlight on or using your NVGs all night. With things like batteries it would make people think more about using certain items.
red62 9 Posted June 27, 2012 NVGs barely use any batteries at all, one 9volt would last a month of night use
nivek 0 Posted June 27, 2012 Well then NVGs would still use batteries then but you would barely need to change them!
red62 9 Posted June 27, 2012 yeah, it wouldnt be worth it because you'd probably die soon anyway
nivek 0 Posted June 27, 2012 Oh well. Thought I'd just throw it out there and see what everyone though!
Gravelsack 3 Posted June 27, 2012 I just did a search for "batteries" with thread titles only, and found 3 threads.WTF? This hasn't been suggested before today? Obviously, we should need batteries for our battery operated devices. Then we need more battery operated devices.Batteries./signed.
andrew111150 13 Posted June 27, 2012 I didn't know torches use bateries xD
DAS1337 20 Posted June 27, 2012 I've suggested this before. Not this exactly in regards to NVG's. I suggested in flashlights. Then being able to duct tape your flashlight to a gun. You will have to replace it's batteries. GPS should use batteries, I agree.(And should be more common).. Batteries for walkie talkies? So we can talk on side chat? Megaphones? I'm sure we can think of some other ideas.
nivek 0 Posted June 27, 2012 Yeah I only suggested NVGs because I didn't realise they lasted so long, but I definitely think that flashlights and GPS should definitely not have unlimited power.Attaching your flash light to your gun would be cool as well as handing instead of having to switch things around as well as being unarmed when your flashlight is out!Maybe with the radios, once you find one, you can set it to a certain frequency and then anyone else who has one and has set it to that frequency can hear you no matter where you are on the map or to a certain distance. So if you had and a friend had one, if you were both on the same frequency then you could talk to each other as if you were on TeamSpeak.
Duckman404 37 Posted June 27, 2012 I think only being able to attach your flashlight to a primary weapon would work, maybe by combining a bandage and a flashlight?Replacing batteries could work by right clicking on the electrical device and selecting 'replace batteries', of course, but before any of this can happen, Rocket needs to make magazine capacity stay consistent. For example, you might have a half charged AA battery in your inventory. When you disconnect and reconnect, it'd be fully charged, because ARMA would treat it just the same as a magazine.
nivek 0 Posted June 27, 2012 I was thinking thats how you would replace the batteries in an item and yeah all those bugs would have to be fixed for everything to work properly.
alexander_q 6 Posted June 27, 2012 Good idea. The problem with magazines replenishing will be fixed in 1.7.2.Batteries will only last for a month in NVGs if they are fully charged. Batteries lose charge over time even when they're not used. So let's assume that nobody will ever find fully charged batteries, and give NVGs a more practical battery time of 4hours or so. nivek 0 Posted June 27, 2012 Yeah exactly. There should be some kind of consequence for using your electronics all the time.
herd 69 Posted June 27, 2012 Batteries for NVG only. The flashlight is useless anyway. Why make it even more useless ?
Duckman404 37 Posted June 28, 2012 Batteries for NVG only. The flashlight is useless anyway. Why make it even more useless ?I wouldn't call it useless at all, especially for those of us who haven't some high end military loot, like an L85 or NVGs.Even with the gamma set to 2.0, it gets very hard to see at night, and flashlights make life a hell of a lot easier for either the newly spawned player, or someone who just hasn't come across good military spawns.
