[SA] Realistic Nutrition System

Recommended Posts

I have come up with an idea for a nutrition based hunger/thirst system for DayZ.

My idea is that food items would have realistic nutrition benefits/bad effects to your body. For example, if you ate something with...

  • 2,000 Calories - You would be not hungry.
  • 22mg Sodium - You would have dipped -220 in thirst.
  • 200 Carbohydrates - You would be fully energized.

And there would be 2 different categories of hunger, instead of the current 'Energy' system.

Hunger - How hungry you feel.

Energy - How up and moving you feel.

There would also be 2 different categories of thirst, instead of the current 'Hydrating' system.

Thirsty - How thirsty you feel.

Hydrated - How much water your body needs.

I'd like to see things like scurvy. People would need to find certain foods, not just survive off of dry rice. Also, I think this needs to be in suggestions.

I think it's better to keep it simple. I don't think having "how thirsty you feel" and "how thirsty you actually are" is really necessary.

However, it could be interesting to introduce a diet system where you'll be healthier - whatever that entails - if you eat a wider variety of food. Once I find a bag of rice I'm set for food. Would be nice if there was an incentive to gather other food types. Perhaps some food types - like soda or canned bacon - could have some negative health effect if consumed in large quantities, encouraging players to look for an optimal food source rather than eating anything that isn't rotten or, as I do, just keep a bag of rice and ignore everything else.

good idea more realism the better.

The idea is great, the blind adherence to "realism" isn't. Don't see any reason to consider anything else other than the pros and cons of the idea itself. And this certainly isn't a "realistic" representation of nutrition, the concepts of "energy" and "digestion" aren't represented at all. It's still just filling up a meter, rather than seeing tangible gains from expending a resource.

On-topic. I'd like to see a more robust hunger/thirst system. However decent this is, I'd much rather it just be made significant through external means (i.e. limiting the food loot).

I think the sentiment is good, not sure we necessarily need the complication of feeling vs. actuality, though.

Lol, spent some time typing up a reply, part of it mentioned a nutritional system.

I called for a balanced diet, i.e. eating tactical bacon is actually really unhealthy for you, drinking too much caffeinated beverages should make you a bit twitchy making it harder to shoot, etc.

*The sounds of a character pooping is slowly getting louder and louder*

The grunt is real.

You serious? Try drinking 6 strong cups of coffee over the course of as many hours, starting at 1am. Tweaks me the fuck out. Now I stick with tea.

I don't drink coffee at all these days. Tea is much nicer. Refreshing.

Anywho, back on topic, I suppose.
