Map Making Tools

Recommended Posts

I am hoping at some time that tools are released to allow player-created maps. Does anyone know if there are any tools currently out to lay out a map geographically that would translate over? Will it carry over from Arma 2's tools?

He knows that, he is asking what tools he should use to have a hope of them working in SA.

I'm not an expert in the field of how the DayZ engine works, but I know it doesn't use the ArmA 3 terrain, seeing as how the team took an ArmA 2 map, and made it work for the engine, I'd hope that you could work with arma 2, worst case scenario, you've got some practice under your belt making a map.

Quick google search turned up a few things for ARMA 2. Considering the DayZ engine is built off the ARMA 2 one, I'm guessing it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume at least a bit of the pipeline will be shared.

Yes, your right but at the same time he begun his sentence with "I hope at some time...". This is still kind of asking whether there will be support/tools coming out for DayZ SA. But, anyways OP I would suggest waiting til the support comes out before trying to use tools that will be WAY outdated by the time for support comes.

Hopefully we will be able to use the Arma II tools, like people did for Arma III during development.

Later on, we can cross our fingers, that we get DayZ specific tools released, but perhaps its not needed, it kinda depends on how much have changed, on a core level, regarding terrainsmodels and configs.

Honestly i have no idea, but i would imagine Arma II tools will works just fine, for a starter, like most other people suggest in this thread.

Then I'll start down that path. Initially with the current stage of development I'm only worried about geology(Hills, valleys, plains) and geography(Wooded, Open Country) and where roads and towns would be.

With that all in mind how does everyone feel about map size? I would personally play Utes on the off occasion for some variety...

Im pretty sure if you find guides aimed towards Arma II and III, you will get tons of usefull tips.

It might not be 100% the same way, but it cant be far off tbh.

As for map size, i suggest starting with something small/medium.

Dont jump to anything huge, because you you will find yourself drowning in tasks, especially when it comes to "filling" the island with stuff.

A lot of people would much rather have a 5x5km map with attention to detail, then having a 15x15km barren wasteland with nothing it it imho.
