Does "resting" actually do something?

So, the F3 animation, where your char sits down - is this just an animation or does it actually do something / could it do something in the future?

 

Once you're healing, you'll heal no matter if you keep running or moving around, so my initial gut feeling tells me it's just an animation.

 

Does anyone know for sure?

Someone did a test on YT, It didn't increase your stamina regen at all, So, I'd guess just an animation, at least for now..
