Which weapon?

Alright guys, I am on my second character and I finally found 2 weapons around the same area. I don't know if I am lucky or what. The first is an SKS and the second is an M4 (carry handler optics - badly damaged, buttstock OE - worn, and handguard plastic - worn). I did some research and I came to a conclusion that it is all preference. Being new to this game I was wondering what you guys think I should use. Thanks for the help!

M4 is a bit stronger, fast shooting and more ammo in magazine ,but mags are kinda rare (airfield mainly)

SKS is still rather strong, shoots relatively fast, good for short range combat and middle-range sniping with PU scope (which are popular) and it's uber easy to find ammo.

Ill carry a crossbow or mosin on my back and an M4 in my hands in case I run into somebody face-to-face while looting so instead of trying to aim and shoot with my mosin ill just spray the fuck out of them with the M4.

 

Ill always bring around a second weapon with me when I can... It just proves a big pain in the ass to carry around.. (as you drop it to pull out your axe and other items)

 

But to answer your question...I feel more safe with the m4 at my side.... But I hear LOTS of people also enjoy the SKS's company...

Try use both, and find out what do you love more, that's the only right way to know what is more effective in your hands

I enjoy playing on servers with 4-8 people max when gearing up, and even with the huge map, with my luck I always run into at least one of those 4-8 people.

 

p.s. Go RUN INTO somebody in a building and start *thinking*before shooting because before a thought other than "shoot!" goes through your dome a bullet will from the guy you ran into.

 

But back to topic, I find MUCH more SKS's around so i'd test out the M4 first as I rarely find them anywhere but military bases.

Deals good dmg (should be the same as Mosin), very good, even though only has ironsights.

And since I am not so PvP-loving, people won't think I'm mean a danger to them.

 

 

 

But I think about going with the XBow, Sawn off shotgun, revolver, and lots of food and water xD

Even less PvP-, but more survival-oriented.

Being new to the game I would recommend using the M4A1, since it has a larger capacity for ammo (up to 60 round mags.) it is a lot more forgiving than the SKS which chambers 10 rounds and requires placing your shots in your target correctly (upper chest / head or legs if you intend on crippling them.) so I would venture to North-west Airfield or Balota Airfield and grab all Pristine parts for it (MP Handguard/Buttstock + ACOG + Bipod + Suppressor) for the best accuracy with it.

 

But I will say that the SKS deals more damage takes around 2 to 3 shots from the M4 to equal 1 from the SKS, but like I said, you need to aim and place your shots alot more with the SKS since you have only 10 to use before reloading, unless you have a decent amount of stripper clips to run through.

Obviously you've never ran into somebody coming right around a corner because they shoot first ask questions never. Its happened to me on more than one occasion and theyve always shot first, so I spray back. The M4 is better for CQC so thats why I carry it. So quit trying to act like you know how I play because of one sentence you read from me.

 

To keep on topic though, I am also thinking that if you do decide to try and take 2 primarys along you keep one long range and one short range.. Or one silent (crossbow) and one loud.  Just try to keep two different classes of weapon on you for more versitility.

For a new player I would go the SKS.  They are everywhere, the ammo is not too hard to find, you can fit a PU scope to it, and you can load 10 rounds without needing any kind of clip or mag.  

 

The M4 is good, the best for assault, but you really need to spend the time to travel to one of the military bases and get pristine attachments, preferably the MP / Magpul grip/butt-stock - probably the ACOG too.  Reason being the M4 is very inaccurate and is especially so with the standard attachments in poor condition.  

 

If you want to snipe then drop the SKS for a MOSIN + Long Range scope (military bases).

It's a fairly big pain to carry two primary weapons and last I checked (recently) there is a chance you might lose your handed weapon if trying to carry two primaries when leaving or changing servers

Have been told this by friends....But as of yet havent had any issues whatsoever to lose any weapon on logout.

And I've had a few characters since last patch that ive logged off for the night and come back the next day to my hand weapon in a mysterious slot that doesnt exist. Then i whip it out and move on out.

I'v experienced that a few times myself. It's still there, but you have to change out weapons for it to appear. I think it's a bug

 

 

Also, to the OP. I personally prefer the SKS over the M4. Killed 2 guys who had M4s with one yesterday and another one today. I like that it's semi-automatic only because it has forced me to take more controlled shots. Not to mention the availability of the weapon and ammo itself doesn't require a greater change to have to run to bum fuck idaho to get parts/mags for it. I don;t even pick up M4s anymore.

iv found tap fire with the M4 to work really well for short to mid range engagements so for me its the M4 with a buis or carry handle optics, although when i die next I'm planning on trying out the SKS to double check which i prefer the most, just giving both guns a fair shake of the sauce bottle...

I prefer the SKS because its a rather strong weapon. It has a nice range and an OK accuracy. It will shoot as fast as you click.

 

A downside is that it is very loud. Louder than the M4

I did find that my weapon disappeared when I sprayed it with a spraycan, happened just as I was logging off for the night so figured i'd log off and go find a new one in the morning.  Logged in the following day and it was back :D

This happened to me a day or 2 ago... If you wait a few mins it might show up at your feet.... I cant actually remember if I got it back or lost it forever but I DO remember it disappearing on me when i sprayed it (i think from the mysterious hiding spot on my character it was in on log in)

I believe they added this due to the fact that upon logging into a server, you are automatically standing with nothing equipped regardless if you were prone and had something in your hand. That slot is bugged however because you can equip some other item and it will stay in that misc. slot. However, if you put the item you pulled out away and try pulling out another item the item in that misc. slot drops to the floor.

 

As for the weapon choice your best bet is the sks. Ammo more common, attachments are more common places, and it is still a semi-auto rifle. Plus generally you are regarded as High Value when you have an M4 and you become more of a target for bandits.

right now i am using the m4 silenced with acog and the QCB butt stock and the RIS hand guard for the light I love this weapon I also like the SKS with te PU scope...it is all personal prefence really or what you can find ammo for fast....the m4 ammo can be found in police stations but its rare airfields and tent citys around the airfields are great for that ammo the sks ammo will be almost anywhere all that being said go with what you like not what we all tell you period...good luck

I shot every Player with two Primaries on sight! Because they are always badass players! Reason for that: They can shoot you first but they can't give a sign with their hands. That's the Fact why i am always kill them before any other thing will happen.

 

... but never shot a player with no weapon or weapon on their shoulder. Found some nice poeple out there.

I always love my M4, does always a good job at almost every distance. (btw ArmA Vet from the 1st hour. I know how to shoot these weapons ;) )

This is a good point, I always have my weapon ready for douchnozzles that want my things :p

But to me I keep my close range weapon out so if I run into someone I can just boom boom, and if theyre far away then i obviously have time to find a spot to take out my longrange weapon and scope em in.

 

p.s. for not speaking english well, you use the correct "their" better than most english speaking people lol
