There should be a physical need to sleep...

Recommended Posts

...and it should be based on hours played, not "world time". Obviously you couldn't make players stay asleep for hours on end, but maybe 5 minutes? There should be a real health benefit to sleeping (and as a corollary a health detriment for not sleeping). Maybe your vision gets blurry and you slow down, movement becomes sluggish...

I think it would add an interesting twist, having to hunt for a safe place to crash for a few zzz's.

What say you?

oh dear god, why do you people troll the forums??? if you implement sleeping and crapping in this game, you likely won't get another game sale. it is the absolutely fastest way to kill the game.

Would not be surprised if pissing was the next feature to be implemented.

Actually sleeping seems more viable then pooping so im all for it so long as i have the option to wake my character up and he doesn't need to sleep for 10 minutes long.... i mean i still want to ENJOY the game.

Meh, I don't think it should be "sleep" per-se. Perhaps just "fatigue" would be good enough, remedied by just having a rest for a while (doesn't have to be "sleep").

Although, I think there's something to be said for the use of "sleep" as a logout mechanic. Not sure I'm 100% on board with it, but I think it's a good thought exercise.

you probably will need to do this when exhaustion becomes a factor it will be more rest than sleep though..

Tbh, sleeping sounds more like your character sleeping till you log back on.

* Sleeping involves keeping the character persistent on the server.

Would be interesting to assassinate sleeping characters, but I can see the community rage quickly about this.

I think, if it were so, players would have to be able to camouflage themselves sleeping pretty god damn well.

Once private hives are in.

Hopefully we get Rust like mechanics.

When you leave the game your character sleeps in game so your character never really leaves the game.

This would eliminate combat logging and increase the immersion.

It forces you to log out in a safe area and more importantly increases the value of barricading homes and or building bases.

That sounds alot like freshly spawning everytime you get back on. I may be reading wrong agaim though.

Imagine actually sleeping in the tents, instead of storing 30+ weapons.

Ah, the immersion. lol

Oh, what, realism? On a realistic survival/zombie apocalypse simulator? Oh no, let's go for no realism, since you can speak for everybody, that no one will ever buy a game because there's shitting and sleeping?

Hopefully this picture makes it a little clearer .

Simply put rust is not like dayz each server has its own ecosystem not unlike private hives.

So when you join a new server you get a whole new character.

When you disconnect from the game the player sleeps like in the picture this leaves you vulnerable at all times and this is why base building and barricading is so important in rust.

Yeah the sleeping mechanics in rust have their appeal though the game and scope of it are quite different. So this would be a long term thing only for private hives.

And that's assuming they manage to implement base-building, not simply barricading

Sleeping wouldn't work.  In other games where you need to sleep, time fast forwards.  Since DayZ is multiplayer, that means you have to sit there watching a blank screen in real time until you wake up.  Sort of boring.

Ok i didn't think about the barricading part. That sounds great actually so long as we can have dome sort of protection (barricading and such.) Also im with you on private hives :). Edited by Murlough

We actually had this in the mods of DayZ. It was the only way for a while to possibly cure infection as antibiotics were near impossible to find and 75% of the zed hits caused infection needing them or else slow eventual death..

I am not for sleeping. That sounds lame.

It works great in rust and will only get better as new stuff gets added.

I would imagine building a base out in the wilderness and then going around the perimeter and bobby trapping the area with grenades on tripwires.

Log back in to see a dead player who was attempting to raid my base.

And what next?

Some mobile application to feed character at right time, otherwise it will die.

Soon we have some weird multiplayer tamagotchiZ.

I dont agree with the rust style sleeping mechanics, im sure "realistically" you would hear people bashing down your base to come kill you in your sleep, but if you are logged out, then theres nothing you can do about that

I think the fatigue/resting system would work better, with such things as caffeine helping to fight it off abit longer

or if logging out was counted as sleeping, your character would get tired as you would, meaning all night dayz sessions can't really happen, if you've also spent all day playing dayz, thus encouraging people to take breaks, or do something else rather than sitting up til 4am playing, and sleeping til 8am to get up for work/school/life

Thank you. Who thinks logging in to watch your character sleep is a good idea? That has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Yes, the IDEA of realism is okay, but please use a bit of logic before coming up with this stuff. People don't pay for games that make them sit and not play.

I will put this in a Tony Dungy voice:

You PAY to PLAY the game. Not sit idle for 33% of the time watching your guy sleep!

If you read the OP, you'll notice I did mention a duration of MAYBE 5 minutes... or do you only play 15 minutes at a time? Dayz Origins gives you the option to sleep and recover health - it works fine, albeit for a duration of only 45 seconds or so. I think I'd have the patience to wait it out for the reward of a healthy, refreshed character. Maybe you're lacking that virtue. COD awaits...
