Desync head and hands for a better gameplay

Recommended Posts

The first time I played Dayz mod, I really experienced the survival simulation of the game, it felt really good to play. But after the post-excitment if you let the zombies, the loots and the size of the map aside, that's a fps. Nothing in the gameplay is new, and it's even friendly-user compared to arma.

I'm not here to trashtalk about Dayz.

But then I tried a HL2 mod called Resistance & Liberation, which is a ww2 simulation - so totally out of the topic. In this mod, they came with a totally new gameplay to me, some kind of head/hand desync which I never experienced.. Did you experience this kind of feature with other games maybe ?

To explain, if you move you mouse just slightly, your arms holding your gun will move around your screen, but your head will stay still. It might seem to be weird but it feels so great in a simulation, slow paced game.

I've made this topic as last patch broke the mouse mouvement in other ways. Mouse movement will be good soon enough, but as shifting to look around, those are not enough for me to feel the simulation as this Resistance and Liberation managed to do for me. So why not try something new, and let the synced screen movement to general fps games ? And bring some desync movemenst with which you will feel your character swing around.

What your describing sounds like aiming deadzone to me.. You can turn it on in the options, Your weapon moves, Then your head does..

Perhaps you can have the mouse controls you enjoyed in R&L, In DayZ.

There was a post a few days ago talking about a system like this. The post referenced Red Orchestra and it immediately made me think of RnL. Do people still play that mod? I had a great time with it.

Anywho, I'd love a system like this. Works so well to improve immersion.

Just loaded up Arma 2 since I remember this option in the menu. Can verify that this is indeed in the game. Can assume that it's in DayZ as well. Might even enable it next time I play.

It's part of the aiming deadzone that you actually can set in the mod and in the standalone, very helpful feature. I wish more games would have it, especially Garry's Mod (which lets you do that in the 'C' menu but nowhere else)

I wasn't aware that Dayz was featuring this. So right now, it's a on/off option ? Kinda weird as it totally changes a game.
