How many of you find a handgun before ever finding a rifle?

One of the bigger issues imo is the lack of pistol mags too, you may find a pistol in a firestation/school but you're less likely to find the exact mag for it, meaning you need to go to the airfields just to load your pistol.  I agree that they should be bumped up into more residentials, maybe some of the actual house buildings because I feel in large part many of those are just skipped over.

Look in the police cars at police buildings too, open the doors and trunks, look inside all vehicles for that matter. I have found food, magazines and weapons in trunks, bed of pickups and right in the open on the hood of a car even.

They would make for a nice 2nd tier defense weapon before you move on to the 1st tier guns.

Sometimes I'll find a revolver before finding a rifle, however it's pretty rare.

 

Normally I have an SKS or Mosin long before I find myself a pistol and magazine.

 

Now, if we're counting the sawn-off as a sidearm.. I've taken to keeping one of them on me just for dealing with zombies when I feel safe shooting them and arming friendlies who've spawned fresh, since the ammo is so common and rarely used that even in the most stripped out 100 man server you'll still find a stack of two lay around and the guns themselves are rarely picked up, one DayZ I plan to fill my backpack with them and build an army of shotgun wielding newspawns.

The damage of the M4 (5.56x45) needs to be increased slightly and the damage of the SKS (7.62x39) needs to be decreased slightly.

 

Shots to the legs do a MASSIVE amount of damage and have a chance to cripple the target based on damage.

The damage to the legs should be decreased while leaving the chance to cripple intact.

 

The M4 gets a completely different dispersion variable when you hit the "T" key to switch it to semi automatic. With Magpull^tm parts and switched to semi automatic fire the M4 gets almost mosin-like accuracy. The damage of the weapon leaves a lot to be desired, however in most engagements where lead is flying both ways, its often better to put more in the air than the opponent(s).

 

For these reasons, and because the game is in alpha and weapons haven't been adjusted for accuracy and wear you have to ask yourself whats more important, volume of fire and low damage or high damage and relative precision?

REALISM!!!!

 

Man I was playing some arma 3 earlier with a tiny bit of free aim + weapon resting mod + uSMC mod + insurgents mod.

 

The shooting was surreal it was soooo satisfying especially when compared to the absolutely atrocious shooting in dayz.

 

Note I said satisfying and not easy.

 

With iron sights and an m4 was struggling to hit things at 300m due to the nice sway but at the same time any time I missed was not because of a stupid dispersion mechanic but because I was not aiming right.

I do think the dispersion is a huge issue. There's just so many different problems including the damage model that kind of overshadow it at the moment. I'd like it if there were more chances of getting incapacitated for a long duration if struck by a round.

Yea I am hoping they just go through all of the shooting mechanics and give it a taste of realism.

 

Fix the dispersion so weapons mimic their real life counter parts.

 

After that they can adjust damage.

 

The only balancing I want to see is that which is done by adjust the loot tables.

Its been said the game will lower the spawn count of guns overall when the hives are actually working and there other weapons the player can relate to solve the zombie problem... Such as, the bows they are adding, and throwing weapons. Also, yes, they have also said they want handguns to be a major factor in the game and advanced military weapons to have more rare ammo and be more rare in general to maintain and shoot.

Handguns are more reliable in CQB than most rifles. In my opinion they shouldn't be all that more common than rifles, simply because they are that good.

I came across someone at neaf, i was armed with a magnum and he had an m4, from the looks of it, it was your basic m4, anyhow, i saw him run to the north side of the western jail, i guess he saw me ran to the other end, i peaked out and there he was crouched waiting for me, i fired twice while he just unloaded, went back into cover to check, i didnt get hit, i peaked again and i saw him running away and bleeding, i fired 4 more shots before he got to the corner... Before i could finish him off, his sniper buddy fractured my arm and i had to retreat.

Point is, the m4 is to weak, both dispersion and damage. The stock m4 should be as accurate as the mp m4, mp shouldnt increase accuracy, it should give other benefits.

A rifle is way to eazy find

 

Pistols have alot of hate.

Those mags just terrible to find.

mosly look in military tents to find a mag or 2 for my handgun.

Rare to see a mag spawn point, and if you do find 1 still need luck to find the corresponding.

Mosly  only find mags in a firefighters building and maby and i say maby in police station if your lucky.

Really love to see more mag spawns in like... those storage box units since they do spawn pu scope and bajonet.

Also in police station more mags in like the storage rooms (room thad you walk true 2 doors)

Than just add a piano house loot spot for mags and it's done.

 

and also ppl always rant on the m4.

But it's just soo depending on what attachments it has.

For the most part magpull seems to be working better.

But my advice will be to find the most prestine  parts and try it out on a long range target like a house.

Before the latest update, I spent hours running around with a Mosin looking for a .45, and once i finally found one, several more hours trying to find a clip for it. Now, it seems backwards to me; so far, since the last update, I've found several pistols, mostly .45s, and even some clips (including a few 1911s, though it took me a while to find a clip for the one I took), but I have yet to find a single Mosin. I've found a number of SKSs and M4s, but those don't really interest me, as I don't own either of them in RL, though I do own a Mosin. So for me, it's not so much a functional thing as it is a personal collectible thing. Did they lower the spawn rate of Mosins with the last update, or am I just having that bad of luck finding one? I've run from the eastern coast North through Berezino to the NEAF, then west to the NWAF, then down South to the Balota AF, and I have yet to find one. I've searched various police stations and other buildings known to spawn them along the way, but to no avail. I have yet to enter Cherno or Elektro (for obvious reasons), so perhaps I'll try my luck there. I know this may sound lame, but I'm kind of afraid to search there, as I'll almost certainly encounter a KoS punk, which would ruin my plans to patrol the spawn zones helping out fresh spawns. That is, unless I can manage to get the drop on them first, though I try to give them the benefit of the doubt and not KoS in case they're friendly, because I know from experience how much it sucks to get blapped by someone without ever being a true threat to them and not given the chance; of course, I also know from experience how much it sucks to have someone claim to be friendly and then shoot you in the face as you're dropping food for them.

This is why NATO switched from the 7.62 to the 5.56. However this doesn't really work against terrorists. I think that 2-3 shots is quite an accurate representation.

Cant find ballistic test on the current standard round the US military uses but it is by all accounts far deadlier than the videos round.

No way someone can take one of those or any 5.56 round to the chest and shrug it off.

 

You will be either incapacitated on the ground passed out or dead from a single shot.

 

 

Is the ammo that was used with US troops as back up until 2008 I believe this is what the grand majority of mil surp ammo would probably be.
