Any friendlies in standalone...?

Recommended Posts

So the weirdest thing happened to me the other day whilst playing...I actually encountered a friendly player by the name of Felix!
He was a German chap and spoke pretty good english. Since he decided not to shoot me I gave him a scope for his mosin along with about 20 rounds.

This is the first time playing the standalone I have had a friendly interaction with another player like this, so we teamed up and I followed his lead to Elektro. To cut a long story short we got killed by two bandits :(

But I was just curious, how often do friendly encounters with players like this happen in the standalone? It was certainly a first for me and i've been playing since launch!

R.I.P Felix

P.S I did record the whole thing and made a short video for YouTube but i've found out the hard way that posting video links was frowned upon, If someone is interested in seeing the video though I could post the link, but only if I am allowed...the graveyard was a nasty place.

I've had a few, but more often it's I'll say hey and bang I am dead.  I have started asking people if they are psycho.  Also, if I say hello and fail to get an answer the assumption is that the person encountered is not friendly, so I will usually bail out of a situation like that unless I can take them down for sure.  Another sure sign that I need to fight or flight is if you have no pants on, are babbling about watching UFO's or doing some other crazy shit.  If I turn around and someone is fists up, sneaking up behind me, bang, and lately, anyone with a weapon in hand.  Anyone wearing a mask gets shot too, not the respirator or gas mask though, just the Halloween masks.

I have been shot at and missed quite often, it is nice how most people can't shoot straight, thanks adrenaline.

There is a gallery section for the video and it will be well appreciated there, not in the general discussion (key word being discussion ) also i encounter friendly players all the time, at least one every night, i cant pin down what it is i am doing right though.

Yes that's true, I have to wait a couple of minutes each time I want to connect to an experimental server. I think there are only 10 experimental servers, 5 regular and 5 hardcore. Only two of them are 100 man servers. Does somebody have more experimental servers on his list?

General tips:

-If they sound like they havnt hit puberty yet over VOIP just shoot them, they wil KOS you when they get the chance.

-If you team up and they generally feel the need to run behind you. Just shoot them, not worth the risk.

-If you met them in berenzino and htey are geared..... What do you think they are in high pop area for?

For the first two ive met a "squeker" and lived to tell the tale. No bullets fired. And i usually run kn front when with multiple people and i havent been shot in the back yet.(In that instance) I did have a sniper chase me out of Cherno into the woods and then killed me as i was eating some food.(I was starving lol.)

I don't trust anyone. If I spot someone on my travels, I'll hang back and avoid them. Never approached someone.

That being said, I've had a few occasions were people have run up on me and not shot. In those instances I just bolt for the nearest exit. Better to be safe than sorry!

What gets me... is I am fully geared, I wear black assault vest with black motorbike helmet and riders ajcket with black cargos just for fun lol... I carry fully modded m4 and people just run right up to me and say hi...

most of them get shot.

If they run directly towards you,...just shoot.... I dont understand how people can be so dumb lol.. stand back a ways and say hi.

Although you literally just described me (German named Felix, trying to be friendly), after I watched the video i realized that it was someone else.

But still, yes there are friendlies in dayz, but in my experience the hardcore servers are friendlier than regular servers, since most of the cod-children that just want a deathmatch want to use 3pp.

The trick is to figure out which times friendlies are on... Don´t worry bro, if ever you see a group of beefy clan guys with spongebob names on your server, we are the remains of an american marine battalion sent to eradicate the virus.... We lost contact to air control, and had to land in chernaraus.... Long story short, we are organizing survivors to set up a town, and wait for help from the 2nd naval air division.

Oh shit, somethings knocking on my door...

Fuck, if you are reading this, get to Elektro... Message codename - WolfPack has turned, repeat WolfPack has turned...

I've met quite a lot of friendlies but not a single one recently

Seems like it's gone back to pvp death match now

Even when faced with a whole group trying to communicate every lone survivor has tried to kill us knowing they are going to die

I've been playing experimental lately and most everyone is friendly. The thing is I usually make the first approach and say "Hey how's it going" even if I spot them on the other side of a town. You just have to take control of the situation.

I did meet some guys that tried to handcuff me, all the while telling me they were friendly. One of them even had the audacity to ask me for help when he was getting attacked by a zombie.

They will act friendly when they are fresh spawn. Like everybody does. The random dude with an m4 won't. Stupid thread.

Well that's not true

I've met a couple of random guys with M4s they were friendly, one was even in the middle of a firefight

Few general things ive learned but probably obvious;

1. New spawns are generally friendly (unless immature kiddies who want to run around pant-less punching people for "the lolz"). this changes once they no longer need your help.

2. The more someone has to loose by trusting you, the more likely they are to just hoze you before you get a chance to do anything threatening.

3. Where you meet makes all the difference. i wouldn't generally trust anyone who wants to go to well known death traps that offer easy sniping positions for his or her mates (See Airfields)

4. Betrayal and meta-Gaming is part of dayZ. accept it and move on. some have gone as far as to get people on TS/Steam/Skype and still betray them. nothing is 100% Use your common sence, and if in doubt observe for a bit before approaching someone.

Actually, I had met a few nice people the other day. Had about a 5~6 hour run on DayZ on a 30+ man server and met 3 people who were actually pretty cool. A fourth one who acted as a boom-box for me and two others, met another one alone who hurt a fresh spawn because...well...he was mentally disabled or something like that haha.

Just before I logged out, I saw two other guys in Elektro by the hills where the cabin-houses are (the small 1-room houses with just the TV/kitchen room together), things were a bit tense at first but after they agreed to put their guns away I showed them a mosin I found, dropped down a pack'o 20 rounds since the guy's friend just had a shotgun. They even added me on steam, looking forward to playing with them again, if anything :D

Granted I did meet some foes, one unseen dude killed off a friendly that I gave a 1911 to since he had an empty chest holster...another guy tried to loot his body who I quickly dropped, though never found the murderer of my friend :c

Along with that, a dude I play with over skype got axe'd to the face in Riffy, downed him with my mosin...then Berezino had a dude running rampant with an M4 KOS-ing everyone to which I fell victim to.

Finally, the most hilarious part was that another time, going through elektro I was finding piles of ruined/badly damaged stuff, eventually start going through the houses looking for loot (since there were no bodies, had been more than 10 min so was a bit safe to assume they left) and I find two dudes in camo+m4+payday masks logging out. Needless to say, my axe was used :D

I meet more friendly people on Hardcore then hostile people.

Just the other day, i ran into this english chap, we where both fresh spawns, so we desided to run to Berezino together.
When we got to the construction site, just outside the city, we encountered 2 fully geared guys, which was also friendly. They gave us weapons and food and then the english chap was on his way.

I then found out, the two guys where danish, like myself, so i ran with them and we started looting the city.

5 mins later, the english chap comes running through the streets, screaming for help.

He was going to Berezino to meet up with his friends, and he did, but they also met a M4 dude, who was very trigger happy.

So basicly he then lead us to the M4 guy, which we killed and looted and everyone was happy. At this point we where standing about 6 people in the middle of Berezino, no murder or anything.

We split up again, i ran with the two danish guys towards the airfield.

Once we got there we started looting the prison building, and suddently one of the guys was headshotted through the windows, facing the hangars.

We dropped to our belly and tryed to save him, but it was way to late.

Then we heard voices outside the building, it turned out there was 5 people standing right outside the building and we naturally assumed they where the ones who shot us, so we where very guarded at that point.

Before we knew it, bullets started flying again, towards the people standing outside the prison. It seemed like the same guy who just shot my new danish friend, so total panic ensued.

My other danish friend had to log out for dinner, his entire family was visiting, so i was suddently left alone in the airfield, with at least 5 strangers within 20m of me.

The people outside then wanted to come in to the prison, to get away from the fire they where taking, so i was prepping myself for certain death, when that door opened.

I yelled to them "Ok, im gonna lower my weapon and you guys can come in". Not 5 secs later the doors opened up and not 5, but 9 people stumbled into the prison, i was seriously outnumbered.

It turned out they where very friendly and ment me no harm, we traded some gear and then we jumped on the same TS and started hunting this guy who shot the danish dude.

Eventually i had to leave aswell, so i ran for Krasnostav (whatever lol) like a headless chicken, while being able to see the mosin dude, who shot the danis guy, over my shoulder all the way.

He was a damn poor shot and missed about 20 shots, before i was so far away he had no chance of hitting me.

This event really restored my faith in the average DayZ player and it happens quite often.

It was an amazing experience :D

Holy moly that sounds like quite the day you had

Hands down, one of the best experiences ive had in the game so far :)

It seems like, at least to me, that Hardcore has alot more diversity to the players.

Some RP, some KOS, some are extremly friendly and you meet all of these "types" on a daily basis.

Ofc i still get killed, but most of the time its actually possible to talk your way out of it, by offering what ever gear you have to spare your own life.

To me, my life is the most important, i will gladly part with ALL my gear if i can stay alive :)
