chrismgtis (DayZ) 35 Posted April 17, 2014 No the #1 problem with night is you can't see a zombie from a mile away. But they damn sure will see you and you won't know it until they are eating your face.
DarkwaveDomina 1099 Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) All the night-specific stuff needs fixing. Torch sucks, head torch doesn't point where you aim, no road flares or glow sticks, and probably the most annoying for me there is still no hotkey for weapon flashlights. I loved running around with the flashlight on the Remington at night in the mod, it's a shame night in standalone needs so much attention because I really have no interest in it currently. rybo 171 Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) I'm at work and don't have time to double check comments but you got too do this if you want better lighting. -Use Together-Head Torch: Goes on head.Flashlight: Hands Same goes for a pistol or rifle light. The Head torch is your primary lighting source. Moves with your head. The hand held flashlight is stationary and is a frontal illumination. Use them together. It's not a fix but sure as hell helps allot. Don't forget you can make a lantern and before they turned night off the thing would light up a city block. Wonder how it's doing now? My biggest problem with night is the Gamma/Brightness exploiters. Even after they hot fixed it me and my group were killed more than once by that invisible KOS'r. We got jumped in a prison one time and literally couldn't see 1' in front of us. Well of course some Jerk off comes rolling in and starts shooting. We turn all the our lights off and jump into corners. I was the last in line. He walked through and head shot us one by one. Right before he got me I figured it out. It was just after the recent Gamma/Brightness fix and I though no way in hell could he see us. Knowing that he had to be exploiting and or using hacks I myself quickly jacked my Gamma/Brightness up. Well guess what it was enough to see about 3-4'. I called him a Gamma/Brightness exploiting expletives then told him to finished the damn job cause I wasn't stooping to his low. Well he did and laughed about it. That was the last time we did night and it was about a week before they removed night completely. Played some A3 missions at night with flashlights with some of the crew. The ones who had not seen the lighting were in awe of how much greater it is and how sad SA will never be as good. It'll come close though..Ya, the angle of the head torch is awful. Maybe they could implement the page up and and page down buttons to change the angle of it up and down.
rybo 171 Posted April 17, 2014 Agree with your post Aradia but even if flashlights were useful the only eay to get batteries is by fresh spawning(or just killing a fresh spawn but thats usually frowned upon) as far as i know. Fire stations and other buildings spawn them. Fire stations always have at least 2-3 batteries...
monolith1985 109 Posted April 17, 2014 i admit i turn my brightness up a little bit, simply because all I can see is the dot, even though im outside and should be able to see something, rather than pitch black, so i turn it up just so i can have.....different shades of black, and can do basic navigation in the dark, but for going through buildings, and for looting areas inside and outside, i have my flashlight readyI really dont like the full brightness/gamma thing, it looks like a horrible blotchy mess. I hope they can find a happy medium between stopping exploiters, and allowing people to adjust suitably for different monitors
