AdmiralBull 15 Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) This game and several others I have played through out the years,I have often wondered why people play the way that they do within the parameters of their game of choice.I always wondered why people go to the lengths of cheating & hacking in games but, that is another subject. If you utilize all the available tools within the game to make you a competitor, why do people who don't utilize the same tools want you to stop doing what you do in order for them to feel like they can compete on an even scale? I have felt this way about such games as CoD and Battlefied for a long time and even convinced myself that I was nobler for not utilizing these/certain tactics. That anyone that would do such things to win or make them a better competitor to me was somehow selling out or being overzealous in their need to win at such a cost. I also see a pattern of people playing this particular game and with it being in current development and, voicing their wants, likes, dislikes and, suggestions trying to influence others (in game) playing and the developers to make this game something that will please their own personal experience when they are in game.I think that you should learn to play the game as well as you can as it develops and adjust accordingly once it becomes a final product. Just my two cents worth.Any other thoughts on this? Edited April 16, 2014 by AdmiralBull

Valadain 270 Posted April 16, 2014 The short answer is that people want a particular experience when they play, which in a sandbox game, requires others to participate as expected. The shorter answer is, those people don't actually want to play a sandbox game.

Katana67 2907 Posted April 16, 2014 (edited) There's a difference between "telling someone how to play" and "adding consequence to action." For example, I have no issue with KoS on a moral level (har har). Nor do I have an issue with KoS from a gameplay standpoint. That doesn't mean it should be a consequenceless and thoughtless action. And making a game/participating in an Alpha test isn't just a "blah, there it is deal with it" type of scenario. It's an interpretive, creative, and analytic process which requires critique and adjustment. Edited April 16, 2014 by Katana67

djporternz 644 Posted April 16, 2014 It's a box of sand where the jungle gym is?Pfft.. hoser.No... that's a jungle gym with softfall. A sand box is exactly the same but without the jungle gym. It's also alternatively known as a public animal litter box, which is a far better descriptor of the current state of DayZ....

I agree with everything you have said here.Believe me,I do think that choices made within this game brings about many consequences already(and even more in the future) at this stage of it's development.I think the problem lies within the (certain) player's choice of consequences. There are too many folks relying on the developers to rectify moral and immoral choices made by the players that do as they wish within the parameters of the game at this point.Again,I say to the folks participating in the game currently, learn to adapt & quickly because,I believe it will get harder and not any easier the more the game becomes polished. To me, the game is built to teach you not only how to survive within its world but,for you to learn how to do it quicker than the last time you started off as a fresh spawn. And that is the choice(s),whether moral or not, made by each and every player participating. hefeweizen 254 Posted April 16, 2014 Because being bad at DayZ is like being bad at table top RPGs, you might hack and slash your way through the dungeon and technically "win". But everyone else who was trying to have a immersive experience still thinks you suck, because you acted completely out of character and did nothing but roll dice the entire time. People don't want to play with you anymore, so they ask to have the rules changed so you can't munchkin your way through the next campaign.
