Roleplay in DayZ?

People stay saying that there's "Nothing to do" in DayZ aside from loot and KoS. Though, it'd require thousands of people to agree to this at least, I think it'd be good if there were people out there that actually used their imagination and went to try and conjure up their story and play it out. Each time you die, why not change up your character a bit? Why not define what type of character you want yours to be? (Rural type with a checked shirt, baseball cap, hunter pants, improvised backpack, Blaze/shotgun/PUscoped mosin for example?) This isn't a milsim, it's a war-torn-zombie/infected infested country and you washed up on shore. 

 

The mental stimuation of the game comes from you doing something, so if you have a few minutes as you look around and figure out, what was your guy like for the past 20 years? What was s/he doing? Just think about it and try to stick to that kind of character through each 'life'. Obviously this includes others having to take part, though the amount of fun that you can have is quite high. Though obviously we need quite a few people to not only agree to this but to actually play it out. Even if you're a KoS bandit or a hero, this is something that I believe would boost your DayZ experience by far. As a bandit you get to have un-ruined gear, while as the victim, you get to escape with your life or maybe, even turn the tables.

 

As a hero, you have the advantage of not being KoS'd but also have the terrible possibility of being turned into a captive.

 

TL;DR there's no absolute way to play the game, I haven't seen a topic dedicated to roleplaying or suggesting it so I thought I'd at least put it forward to see what you guys think about it.

I don't think private hives is what we're looking for really...it's just getting enough people to agree that it's a good idea to come up with, present and heavily push the idea forward so that the devs may consider some ideas that may help us out depending on how much support the idea for roleplaying gets to actually integrate it into the game it's self somehow?

I don't think private hives is what we're looking for really...it's just getting enough people to agree that it's a good idea to come up with, present and heavily push the idea forward so that the devs may consider some ideas that may help us out depending on how much support the idea for roleplaying gets to actually integrate it into the game it's self somehow?

You do realize roleplaying isn't done by ideas that are built in the game but with imagination, right?

roelplay communites will form! those communities will Play on private hive Servers with active admins and own Server rules (roleplaying Server rules). active admins kicking People not being able to observe the roleplaying rules....

I've never been an RP fan.. from trying to play d&d on paper to eve online.. just couldn't get into it. but dayz seems like the right kind where I could go along and enjoy a bit of RP actually.

Ah okay! Now I know what you mean by that, then. If that's the case, then heck yeah private hives! It'll take some time but yeah, I look forward to them a fair bit more now!

yeah im sure dayzrp will do a private hive on standalone, they already have a server for standalone, but due to limitations it can be open to exploits, like someone going in and KOSing everyone just to troll. 

once the server population increases and private hives are brought in, it will be fun to run into giant groups of people

yeah the potential for standalone and RP together is great, communicating by radio, story time with books (lol), outfits to suit characters (military, civilian, medical, industrial, bikers), plus people being able to run around abit safer killing the horde of zombies we hope to see someday

This thread is an example of how easy this game is. The only role play you should be doing is surviving. Not creating a back story for your character.

First, you can role play and KoS!  Maybe you have been effected by the virus, and have become a saddistic maniac without any damage to your brain lobes (since I am assuming the virus causes brain damage since people become mindless zombie-like monsters in this game).  So you retain your motor skills, but have some serious anger issues.  Get a gun in hand, you start shooting at anything that moves.

 

The only problem with Roleplaying is, well, me.  I get too good of ideas that most people don't get them.  When I got bored with WoW about a decade ago, I tried the RP servers to see how much fun it would be.  It was alright.  But then I made a character with the best backstory.  I was a Blood Elf with narcolepsy.  I would join instances, and in key moments I would type /sleep and just type zzz's after that, until they roleplayed waking me up.  I did it in boss fights, while waiting for the group to meet, when they needed me to crowd control, all the time.  People couldn't handle my genius.

 

My idea for DayZ is this:  A character with tourettes syndrome.  I would laugh so hard if I was in a squad who was stealthing through a town, then we spot someone, and sneak, slowly, sneakily, right up behind them....then in direct I start screaming "ffffFF%CK SH#T B!TCH"  Then apologize and run away.

you dont get it! roleplaying is so muhc more than KOS.  and coming up with a backstory for your character that just favors KOS is pure trolling from your side!

Did you read my post?  I wont waste my time KoS'ing.  I was just helping out the noobs that don't have the mental capacity to create a story.  My ideas are not for the uninitiated.  I've been roleplaying since roleplaying's been played.  I'm roleplaying right now. 

 

Maybe I'll make a character like Lenny from of Mice and Men, so whenever a rabbit runs on screen I'll jump out of cover, and chase after it yelling out "I wanna tend the Rabbits. George!"
