Let me put it to you simply.

 

The DayZ standalone (the $30 game on steam right now) only requires you to buy it.

 

To play DayZ mod You need Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation arrowhead, you can have the other DLC but all they give you is nicer textures.

 

Arma 2 Combined Operations has both of these and some demos for other DLC

 

Arma 2 Complete Collection has all of the DLC and the base game. (Which means it has Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead)

 

On the BIS store you can get dicounted versions of all of these and you can buy something called "DayZ supporters pack" Which gives you the New DayZ (The standalone) and Arma 2 Complete Collection along with a few other things when the game is released fully.

You need to understand that there is a difference between the ArmA2 CO DayZ mod (old) and the recently released DayZ Stand Alone game (new).

You need to run ArmA 2 and ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead up to the main menu once each before you can install DayZ mod.

DAYZ MOD

 

This is the old mod for arma2. To play you will require Arma 2 and Operation arrowhead. I recommend dayz commander to install dayz mod when you have those games installed. (and you are better getting the pack linked by enforcer for higher quality textures)

 

DAYZ GAME

 

This is the new Standalone version and is £20 on steam. For this you will not require arma 2 or arrowhead, just buy the game (dayz) from the steam store and play away :)
