Should DayZ Be In The Armaverse?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I mean that's just a picture of Chernarus leading to a random circle around the Caucasus.

Like I said, this is just my opinion on it. The way the world is portrayed in-game makes me personally feel that the area that is circled is where Chernarus is located in the counterpart earth that is in the Armaverse.

Well, as per the recent Torchia statement I think we can conclude that DayZ (Chernarus), if not in the actual Armaverse, is a continuance from the events/happenings of ARMA II.

I don't think DayZ is in the Armaverse because ARMA 3 takes place in the near future and there sure aren't any zombies there. Unless you get the mod for ARMA3

Check the post above yours and the quote in my signature.

Still up for debate as to whether it's in the Armaverse (i.e. in the same timeline as the ARMA franchise). But it's clear that DayZ is at least in a separate timeline which branches from ARMA II.

And, even if it were in the same timeline as ARMA III, DayZ could be taking place afterwards. We have no idea when DayZ takes place, only that it's after 2009 (ARMA III is 2033 or something, right?)

I put in my two cents. You didn't need to write a snooty response and a high school essay to prove me wrong

That would explain a ton of the modern weaponry we see, but then again I don't want them adding the MX, F2000 or anything like that.

It's probably just set a number of years after Arma II and then diverges from there.

Although there are those mysterious biohazard domes on Altis.

I think they should your reasoning for such is silly.

We NEED more high end sniper rifles to not 100 year old mosins please.

Just make them extremely rare. Common for testing than maybe a 10% chance to find the ubber high end weapons latter on.

Until they fix that date on the cereal, regardless of it coming from Arma III, it is at least 2017 and after.

An alternate universe where a zombie outbreak happens in 2017 and ARMA 3 never happens (but OFP, ARMA, ARMA 2 does).

XX2aufK.png

The american gear, the CDF soldiers and berets, the Chedaki billboards in the predominantly Russian north and the berets.... Thinking it doesn't at least share parts of the Armaverse is wishful thinking.Deal with it.

Depends on what you mean by "high-end". Things like the M110/MK12 SPR, AS50 and WA-2000 have no place. Guns like the M24, SV-98, PSG-1/G3-SG1, L96/L115, and M14 are, to some extent, reasonable.

We will get an SVD, though.

Err, why the Mk 12 or Mk 11/M110? Both are used pretty damn regularly, both were even in ARMA II (Mk 12 in vanilla, and the M110 was included in OA).

Never mind other AR-10 variants, like the HK417 (which can be purchased throughout Europe and in Russia, and is used by a variety of militaries) and the L191A1 (which is used by the BAF, and has been purchased in the thousands).

I mean I can see it with the WA2000, and to an extent the AS50 (which was in ARMA II as well), but the Mk 12 and Mk 11/M110 are pretty standard fare for the US armed forces.

Yeah, I guess if they wanted to expand upon the US involvement thing then an MK12 or M110 would be fine (Preferably the M110 since we have the M4A1). They could also have an MK14/M39 EMR and HK-417, which I think would fit nicely.

Although their high-tech status does seem kind of weird, they fit the game more than most people would like to believe.

I think an AR-10 would be much better than the mid-length AR-15 Torchia was talking about a few weeks ago. Doesn't have to be an SR-25/Mk 11/M110 (I think the L129A1 or HK417 would do fine), but I think they need both more battle rifles (which the Warsaw Pact nations are distinctly lacking).

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to a Mk 17 either, pretty heavily featured in OA and is seeing regular use throughout USSOCOM these days.

The way I always envisioned the weapons was that the Warsaw Pact stuff would be common, easy to find ammo, but not as modular. Whereas the NATO stuff would be rare, harder to find ammo (not sure this'll be the case, as 7.62x51 is pretty darn common as it stands in DayZ), but able to fit a wider variety of attachments.

But I believe they'll probably go for a G3 or FAL first in that regard, which would be great as well. Also would love a M14, doesn't necessarily have to be an EBR/EMR as there are a lot of surplus vanilla M14s in Eastern European stockpiles.

I wonder how the SVD will work as well, I assume they'll have it looted sans optics so we'll have to make use of the irons until we find a PSO.

Plenty rifles that are plausable in Eastern Europe without the need to add western rifles.

We do need some nice battle rifles in game whether they are western or eastern block.

Two of them I mentioned (and three of them are Western), and four/five (there's a PSL included in the screen of the SVD) of them are derivatives of the SVD/AK. We've got both an AK and SVD inbound. Don't see any reason to add more derivatives that are functionally and aesthetically the same. We've got the M4, we don't have a battle rifle counterpart for it.

Plenty of weapons to go around without the need to discriminate. I have no issue with Warsaw Pact weapons being included. Just the same, no issue with "Western" weapons being included.

G3 is German, FN FAL is Belgian. Germany and Belgium generally aren't considered eastern countries.

True. I just tend to associate those rifles as international rifles because they have been adopted and have been seen and are being seen in so many wars throughout the years.

The g3 and the Fn Fal are just like the Ak a rifle that is seen in just about every mayor conflict.

Exactly, but that doesn't mean we can't have western guns, either. Even if they're rarer, some modern weaponry like the HK-417 or SR-25 would be nice.

While I agree with everything being said, I still have one question...

Whose down with more CDF gear? The sweet ass autumn TTSKO from A2, the flak jackets, the modular US chest rigs from Vietnam, the helmet with radio headset..so much more cool stuff we don't have. The CDF are fucking sweet.
