zombie games and gender issues

Recommended Posts

Just give girls some money and a shopping bag. They will do the rest. Killing zombies virtually is not their thing

P.S- Once a month when I actually get to know a girl, shes from the US. So I need to stay awake until 3AM to talk with her.

LMAO

There is a gender issue in this game. What default character are transgendered people/hermaphrodites supposed to choose if they don't feel themselves to be either male or female?

What particular aspect of the game do you feel is restricted by this choice?

Do you feel your choice of gender restricts or enhances your toon's abilities?

Have you encountered any situation in the game where your absence of chosen gender has affected the desired outcome?

Do you think the option to get your tackle out and announce your gender bias would increase or decrease your chances of being shot in the face at Balota Airfield?

I think it more so has to do with personal interest. Not all women are into hard thinking games where you have to adapt and survive. It's much easier to prove your badassery by getting a dumb amount of kills on a game like COD (been there done that, I find DayZ WAY more fun) and screw the woman/Walking Dead tv show comparison. What about all the babes who read the comic?

Guys n gals, it's not rocket science. The Walking Dead has Rick Grimes and Darryl, whereas Dayz has a bunch of guys pretending to be women...

Case closed!

Hahaha idk the thought of no deodorant and a bunch of sweaty balls turns off any attractive essence those men could have.

Lol. Perhaps after smelling zombies all day, the musky aroma wouldn't be so intoxicating?

Hard thinking? I think you're giving DayZ too much credit on that part.

Basically I think it comes down to the fact that it is a pretty niche game, unless you're actively looking for it or hearing about it from friends or some streamer/youtuber - you won't find it (I think),

it just doesn't have the same exposure like games such as The Sims, Skyrim, CoD, BF, WoW, AC4 and so on and so forth... I think you could just as easily take any other "smaller" game, say... Amnesia the Dark Descent or Shadowrun Returns instead of DayZ.

I think the OP is correct in asserting that there is a gender gap in these types of games- but I believe that is a fundamental feature in women and mens basic natures.

My wife is absolutely not interested in violent video games but actually really likes puzzle solving and story telling types of games. It's not black and white as there will be outliers on both sides but I believe generally speaking most women are turned off by the amount of pointless violence in these types of games.

As far as making DayZ more social - I believe it is up to the player-base itself to enact change in the game itself. Once DayZ is feature complete we will see more people taking the time to "build" within it.

The Freeside Trading Company from the mod being a fine example of player driven organic content. I believe the CEO (lol) of Freeside still posts on these forums, albeit in a bit of a jaded way nowadays. Can't blame him tbh.

My wife is addicted to that candy crush game and will play some win games like Mario games. She does actually enjoy watching me play dayz and other more complex games(specially story driven) mainly she doesn't play games like that because she isn't comfortable with the controls and has no interest in learning them

Im glade you DIDNT mention Amnesia: Machine For Pigs. That was the biggest let down of a scary game EVER. They took great ideas from the first game THAN decided not to implement them and just felt like a huge step back instead of forward.

You play with toy guns and toy cars, you build bases out in the woods, and you pretend to be "Bandits and Heroes".

DayZ is basically a pre-pubescent boyhood simulator. But with more swearing.

All it needs is the ability to torture small animals that we catch, and it's there.

Most real guns have a habit of sometimes looking plastic. Its sometimes easy to mistake a real gun for a toy gun visa versa. http://nation.time.com/2013/10/25/toy-guns-deadly-consequences/

I used to turn on this big, bright security light outside the garage in the evenings to try and attract all the moths and maybugs, and then just blatt them with a tennis racquet.

I lacked your capacity for evil scheming, apparently - just got straight to the point.

I think simply it has to do with that video games in general are more populated by males then TV show viewers

Not as many women play games. Not being sexist it's just kinda true. But it has been increasing a fair bit. For example COD ghosts has attracted a huge number of female players just by adding female body options. Day z already has that so I'm willing to bet once it hits beta and gains popularity the current female fan base will increase in numbers.

You know, 50% of all gamers are women now. Its 2014, everyone play video games at similar rates. It doesn't matter what part of social spectrum you look at, you'll probably find a lot of gamers. The one caveat to that would be age, but as far as people who grew up with access to the internet are concerned gaming is fairly universal. Now, that isn't to say that PC gaming doesn't skew slightly toward men (Around 60/40, with the percentage of men rising when you're talking about games that require more advanced systems.) and DayZ specifically doesn't appeal to mostly a male audience. But just because you don't see women playing the games you like, doesn't mean they aren't there.

The lack of women playing DayZ has to do with how griefer prone the game tends to be. A lot of women don't care to be teabagged and told over direct chat how much of a fag they are, and tend to gravitate toward games with less antagonistic communities. Women in general don't have the same stupid hard on for competitive gaming that men tend to. Of course, I'd have to qualify that statement with the concession that there are still a lot of women with stupid hard ons for competitive gaming, and men like myself who have totally hate the competitive gaming scene and stick to stomping pubs.

All one has to do in order to avoid tea bagging is staying off of heavy hit cities unless you ABSOLUTELY need something from them.

"Women in general don't have the same stupid hard on for competitive gaming that men tend to"  WAT?

Thats a lie, maybe not in this game but PLENTY of woman get lady booners playing other more competitive games.

Pro tip: Borderlands 2. Got my wife into shooters that way. As far as introduction to shooters goes, its like one long lesson in playing FPS's interceded with hilarious and compelling storyline as well as RPG loot finding and character buildling. My wife couldn't get enough of it, now shes game for almost any FPS.

Did you not finish the last paragraph? "Of course, I'd have to qualify that statement with the concession that there are still a lot of women with stupid hard ons for competitive gaming, and men like myself who have totally hate the competitive gaming scene and stick to stomping pubs."

Well, I guess I play it because I really like the concept of the game, I love kissing Zombies with my Fire Axe, a gun isn't a must have, and I hope at some point, tactical survival is more important than killing everything that moves.

Oh, and then there is of course the typical "Whoa, Duuude! You're a girl???" whenever I run into someone that lets me live long enough to say something ^^ I like to answer that one with "Nope. I'm a fire truck." or something equally confusing.

If you can't beat 'em - confuse 'em, right?

It's simple.

Men are attracted to violence. It is in our nature subconsciously. We are conquerors... Human Males are the Apex Predator of Earth. Women enjoy drama and romance, a good story, love for more than we do.

A lot of women play wow.... Because you can collect cute things and play dress up and flirt with nerds to have them give you things. They get attention. In DayZ the attention they get is KOS by 12 yr olds for "fun"

Dang I should try that. Is that an option I can key bind somewhere? "Kick Balls"? :D

On the other hand - never bring a knee to a gunfight...
