I asked in another thread, one user replied because it looks good.

 

It's an unneeded weight that is becoming so more popular with bandits or people becoming bandits; it helps my group really, if we spot somebody with a gas mask then we get in formation with possibility of flanking and there's a 90% chance we'll be absolutely ready to fire if fired upon thus eliminating the threat (which always does happen).

 

To be honest though, the gas mask is hideous compared to a model such as this

Ah, so if a person doesn't wear one, it has a high chance of friendly. (Or newspawn, depending on the gear loadout of course.) I just wear different hat's/gear for looks, not functionality. 

Though the slots i miss if i use jeans or shirts for example, bug me. :(

What I've found so far, it seems to be that way.

As if the gas-mask is protecting or blending your identity.

 

Of course this doesn't mean you can run straight toward people without them, I saw a video of Youtubes DevilDogGamer doing this in a "Trying to be friendly" video, he constantly ran to everyone annoying them, they killed him and he said that's why he kills on sight. Being friendly or hero means you'll still have bad encounters, you just have to take precautionary steps to get in and out safe.

 

As for the extra slots, when I go standard clothing (I wear camo, without masks) I craft my own medkits and use carrier cases in my pants or shirt to take up all 4 slots.

For every 4 slots in clothing, you will get 6 slots in casing.

20 Clothing = 30 Casing and so on; then just use the quick-select bar (numbers 1-10) to link the most important stuff in your cases, keep the food in a backpack or similar.

Have this character since 3 days.

Running around in the north, not a lot of encounters.

Just peace, birds and loot.

 

 

I keep both pistols because ammos are not something I like to leave around, nor keep on myself unused.

And it saved my life once.

Is that a motorbike helmet, gas mask aviator combo?

I wear the gas mask for extra concealment while in the woods. It is earth toned and my characters face is white. It helps with camouflage a bit. Also, i read that it ads protection when being hit. Somebody tested all of the headgear a while back and the gas mask and bike helmet make it almost impossible for someone to knock you out with fists.

 

Not sure, I definitely don't wear it to be seen as a bandit.

For example -> Going from a full military-style character, to a Mosin sniper in some good old fashioned civilian clothing

I lost my backpack and m4 today - I set them down to sneak into a better position to have a look at what a couple of players were up to & to be able to beat a hasty retreat if necessary.. owners musta been farming as the server restarted at about 20 past the hour, gutted lost so much good stuff & was about to cook my first hot meal, thats the 2nd time now i've lost all my cooking stuff just as i'm about to attempt it grrr.. third time lucky..
