blaf 63 Posted April 9, 2014 From dslyecxi's blog (which I agree with):Of course it is more convenient to have it off. Thats the reason why everyone disables it. But let's see what will happen with the "dexterity" update...
gibonez 3633 Posted April 9, 2014 I honestly don't think it is. Why would your gun be disconnected from your body? How would you aim without turning your body and thus run in a different direction than you're actually aiming? Thats the thing the gun is not disconnected from your body. When you aim a gun you are nowhere near as rigid as you are in FPS. Free aim simulates how firing a real gun is , shooting a gun is a very fluid experience not a stiff thing like in 99 percent of fps.
-Gews- 7443 Posted April 9, 2014 Of course it is more convenient to have it off. Thats the reason why everyone disables it. But let's see what will happen with the "dexterity" update... Dslyecxi's argument was not about convenience. Anyways Rocket already said what's supposed to happen, your screen turns around instantly, your weapon follows behind. The example that comes to mind is World of Tanks, the turret following the cursor. Someone suggested it here and Rocket commented on it. Seems like he's now decided to try it. http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1uzkeq/a_solution_for_the_terribad_negative_mouse/

akafugitive 244 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) I agree with Dslyecxi on a lot of his view points but not on this one. Like stated above range of motion is much larger then in most fps games, arma2 had it close DayZ has it better since you still have full body control when your weapon is lowered or while moving with some hustle.I used to do boarding and breaching, that is the most dynamic and dangerous form of CQC since it is very tight/narrow, without having a good range of motion it would not be effective Edited April 9, 2014 by akafugitive

So you have shooting experience? :PYou might be able to wave your gun around, but that won't help to hit things. The rifle must be relativly stiffly alinged towards the eyes and be pressed into the shoulder. One's character looks like an idiot while walking in crouch mode ready for aim. He/she does not press the rifle into the shoulder, instead let's it "hang" kind of. Doesn't seem ready to shoot at all. Not accuratly, thats certain. Also forcing this feature on people WILL drive players away from the game. Edited April 9, 2014 by Khanarac
gibonez 3633 Posted April 9, 2014 Also forcing this feature on people WILL drive players away from the game. It will do no such thing. People will always come back you know this. They will merely adapt.
Gubbjeveln 18 Posted April 10, 2014 Yes, in-game settings don't do anything, needs to be manually configured through DayZProfile config currently. -Open with Notepad:Documents > DayZ > [name].DayZProfile -Scroll to the bottom -ChangefloatingZoneArea=0; to floatingZoneArea=0.30000001; (or whatever you prefer) refers to facing a target in your cone of fire, meaning you can swing your arms/torso without having to reposition your footing. I honestly find the opposite, less disconnect. I can move my hands around from the left to right, up to down in my vision without having to turn my head/body to do so. A very essential part of room clearing, dynamic assault and long range shooting is being able to swing your hands/torso without having to reposition your footing. There is a simple test for this: hold you hand out in front of you, now without moving your body or head move your hand to the left, right,up,down. Does your hand position change in your vision? yes it does. --- They could lock the free-aim but some may not like it, personally I don't see one or the other being an advantage, up to the user. I personally prefer free-aim because locked to centre is too ridged for me and I have a harder time shooting since my hands are accustom to the range of motion a real firearm provides. Others may find the aim swings too fast from corner to corner making it hard for them to get on target because they are comfortable with the drag effect of swinging your body around when you make small movements.Thank you, this was informative. This also raised thoughts new for me, the physics of ones char ingame and why sometimes moving feels awkvard.I will give it a try and explore the settings. I look forward to bump into you ingame.
