rosebud 35 Posted April 7, 2014 I was working on my scope in what I thought was a remote part of the map, firing at a zombie a good distance away. As it turned out I was close enough to a town to attract tens of zombies. The more I fired the more arrived. I tried to switch to my axe by hitting the 1 key (my axe key)...nothing, I hit it again...nothing, so I continue firing my rifle and of course attracting more zombies. This is not the first time that my lock key has let me down, far from it. My lock key, no matter which, is always slow to react in crucial situations. The truly irritating part though is that once I finally am able to draw my axe or rifle my character immediately returns it to its starting position, starting the entire process over again. So I did some testing and here's what I found out...at least on my computer. If you hit the designated key for your weapon twice when its on your back it will take it out and put it back. If you hit the same key twice when the weapon is out, it will place it on your back and not return it to your hands.
Geckofrog7 1168 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Or you could be like me where they don't respond to any number of presses, and have to fend off zombies with a banana. Edited April 7, 2014 by Geckofrog7
zecele 211 Posted April 7, 2014 If you drag the axe into your hands in the inventory screen it will immediately bring the axe out.
Judopunch 523 Posted April 7, 2014 I find a calm double tap on the axe button often does the trick. This is a known bug though and hopefully will be improved in the future.
DayZ_Friendly 145 Posted April 7, 2014 I think this has something to do with lag. Like when you take out a weapon, it has to tell the server that you took your weapon out and sometimes the server doesn't respond to this and your local client can't do anything but ignore the keypress, until the server does respond. I'm just guessing here. I run into this a lot and I've seen people stuck in a "drawing weapon" animation, and I think that's what it looks like to another player. It sucks and they need to fix it, but spamming the key is not going to help you. I find it's best to run away until the keys respond again.
haven923 65 Posted April 7, 2014 I was actually going to make a double-click thread, but with a different premise. I have a hard time organizing my inventory because objects held by my cursor randomly are released and I end up equiping/dropping/swapping items without intending to. My suggestion is that double-tapping locks an object to your cursor and that either single or double-tapping releases it into your inventory...
Hetstaine 10852 Posted April 7, 2014 I find it's best to run away until the keys respond again. That's me,one attempt to get it out..then leg it when that fails.
captain_finnish 134 Posted April 8, 2014 When I run or walk or in fact if I move at all, I need to spam that hotkey bar to get weapon in my hands. Sucks :(
Irish. 4886 Posted April 8, 2014 I got beat up tonight by a girl because my axe was like, "nope, not coming to work right now." She made me bleed pretty bad, and I cursed like a drunken sailor. But in the end when my blade sank into her skull, I realized that everything was going to be right with the world and that maybe my day was going to be just fine after all.... When I logged out my wife was like, "I might be pregnant."
