DayZ Standalone vs DayZ Mod

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have been playing the Standalone since January and have been loving it very much even tho its currently in the Alpha phase and with all the bugs that go with that!!

My question to you guys is would it be worth buying Arma just to play the Mod as i have never played it?

I kinda feel like i should as i am totally in love with this game.

How does the Mod compare to the Standalone in its current state?

Thanks,

       James.

Be worth buying arma 2 due to the fact there are many mods on top of the dayz mod i.e. dayz epoch, origins, panterha etc

Not even that. The ArmA 2 campaign is quite good and totally worth it ("We've got possible war crimes here." - "Yup, definitely war crimes."). Haven't finished Operation Arrowhead though, but it's also good as far as I played.

I was curious about this too as I love the SA but never played any of the mods. But, everyone I asked and everywhere I looked - the majority opinion was that the hacking and glitches were really bad in the mod versions. It also appears there are very few players that really even play the vanilla version of the mod - most seem to want to play a game where you start with everything or within a vicinity of quick access to being fully geared.

Just seems like more trouble than it's worth -when you consider all the various versions of these mods - and split up community within them. I just decided to roll with SA and watch it grow into a glorious game or fall into a pit of fail. Either way, i'll stick with it as I like it.

As of right now I'd say arma 2 is still worth the buy to play dayz (the campaign on the other hand .. bleh) as well as some of the other mods out there.   The hacking/glitching is still out there but not frequently run into depending on the server you play on (private hive with good admins is your best bet)  I know personally I'll be sticking to the mod for the most part until the SA is polished a bit more (instead of coming onto the forums with rage posting every time I encounter a bug)

They are pretty much 2 entirely different games. And as other people said you get a LOT more than just DayZ for buying ARMA2 there are things like Wasteland and all the Life mods which are just as good if not better than DayZ.

I just installed Arma II,the Operation Arrowhead and DayZ Epoch mod

it's a lot of fun, first time online I had a vehicle within two city blocks from where I spawned

Roasted down to Balota, delt with angry AI Guardsman at the base and looted till my hearts content

Then off I went,in a new Hummer :)

Found a Helicopter and took off for NWAF lol

It is a bit clunky/mechanical playing it but still a lot of fun and a nice switch from running everywhere :)

Yeah, that's too much for me. To already have a fully funcitonal helicopter within a few minutes of playing...meh..defeats the purpose for me.

Ive played the mod a little bit recently and it is a lot of fun and offers a lot of stuff the SA doesnt yet.  It doesnt look as nice and has its own problems, but Ive still enjoyed it.  The first time I tried it was on a server called DayZ Hell and it was pitch black at night and there must have been a hundred zombies around the area I spawned in.  I didnt last long, but being attacked in the dark, only seeing the zombies faces every time I fired a round and the muzzle flash lit them up, was def freaky and brought back some of the fear that the SA no longer offers.

That and seeing a team of guys swoop in in a helicopter and start kicking ass was pretty cool.
