Tatanko 5591 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) I plan on swapping out my HDD for an SSD in a day or two and I would prefer not to lose my character if at all possible. I'm trying to avoid transferring most things, but if I need to move particular files for my character I would like to know ahead of time what I should save. Is there anything I even need to move? kichilron 8550 Posted March 26, 2014 No, your character is bound to your copy of the game. You'll be fine even after reinstalling. There's infact nothing you can do to delete your character.

The only reason I had any concern is because I didn't understand how/where it saved the character information. At one point when I first started playing the Standalone I had signed on to play on a buddy's PC and for some reason it was his character rather than mine! :P I'm assuming that was due to it being his "copy" of the game on his PC that I was logged into? You were most likely playing on his computer and on his Steam Account, which is why you had his character.

Who knows. I never attempted it again and have no reason to, thankfully. I think I just wanted to see what the game looked like on his higher-end desktop versus my laptop. Anyway, thanks for being so helpful!
xEzio 1 Posted March 27, 2014 You'll be fine. Keep seeing post about getting your char delete if you delete the profile and whatnot. Did a format and fresh install everything, downloaded steam and dayz and load it right up and I still had my character. Steam sync your profile to their cloud service or whatever. That's why everytime you exit a steam game, it has a connection thing on the Icon.

I should have Windows (it's a Mac) and DayZ reinstalled within the next day or so to see for myself.
