weedmasta 784 Posted March 24, 2014 It has nothing to do with what headphones or speakers you use. Sounds are broken at the moment. Big time and odd enough no mention about it from the devs so far. Sometimes you don't even hear the shots that are in your close proximity, it is that bad.
Rauchsauger 94 Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) Hardly a subjective opinion when I spent 3 years studying the subject, but okay. And that review doesn't really comment on how well the "5.1" aspect of the headphones work, it just says they are a good pair of headphones, which I imagine they may well be, but can they reproduce real 3D sound better than a pair of stereo headphones? nope. You obviously really like your excessively expensive "surround sound" headphones, and have been sucked in by the placebo effect of knowing the headphones have more speakers which obviously means they are better, so I'm just gonna leave you to it. I quoted the part of the review where they state that surround does work - maybe I added that in while you replied - please have a look instead of just ignoring it and then bail out with something like "I'm just gonna leave you to it".Also the Headphones cost like 70€ on Amazon how on earth is that excessively expensive? It has nothing to do with what headphones or speakers you use. Sounds are broken at the moment. Big time and odd enough no mention about it from the devs so far. Sometimes you don't even hear the shots that are in your close proximity, it is that bad. That is right, but you can be sure that the devs know that already. They will start the real bugfixing when ALPHA (content creation) is done and the game enters BETA Edited March 24, 2014 by Rauchsauger
flyxdvd 2 Posted March 24, 2014 using stereo headset i can figure it out easy ;)
hrdrok 183 Posted March 24, 2014 You don't need surround headphones, your ears basically hear in stereo anyway. You can tell where a sound source is coming from with slight tilts of your head (tilts side to side to determine up or down and look to your sides to determine in front or behind)Move your camera around in game and you'll be able to tell what way a sound is coming from. Also keep in mind that there are 2 sounds associated with gunfire. The shot from the gun, and the bullet hitting the ground.Best advice so far...
CrazyCorky 40 Posted March 24, 2014 Lol at everyone saying you need an actual sound card. Unless you have a $60 motherboard the built in sound cards are just as good as a separate one. I've gone through a few of the lower tier motherboards and high tier ones and haven't noticed a difference. The sound in game is nothing more than a place holder. When the sound gets fixed in sure it will be easier to decipher.
lipemr 160 Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) Yes, that is how sound works genius .... I heard you can't see what's on the opposite side of a mountain from you either.you can hear a gunshot from 2km+ trough a open field, If there's hills and buildings on the way, it reduces to 800~1000m, in the game you cant hear a gunshot from 300~400 meters away, lol. @topici use a headphone identical to this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERLUX-professional-stage-headphone-HD681-with-free-shipping-to-worldwide-/161186304620?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item258773d26c And i must say that it is as best as it gets. Get a cheap 5 bucks mic and you're good to go. You can read the reviews if you want to. these people telling you to spend 200 bucks on a headset are probably pseudo audiophyles who think they're cool by doing so. If you want to confirm that the standalone sounds are flawed, just go to the mod with a friend and make him shoot a dmr from ~300m away inside of a city, you can tell exactly where he is by doing so. in standalone you'll be questioning most of the time if the sound was really from there or was a bug. hiberNative 13 Posted March 24, 2014 (edited) As a musician and semi-audiophile who plays with Sennheiser HD650 headphones and nuForce Icon HDP headphone amp, I know soundfx and soundscapes, because it's my interest and hobby.I can confirm that, while ambient effects sound fine, gun sounds are horrible. The mosin has a way too aggressive sound effect, sounding way to close, big and bassy. Guns are hard to pinpoint, and I think it's because they're too loudly mixed (not all of them, the M4 lacks a lot of the initial crack). Check this informative video on mixing weapon sounds and how to achieve a decent reaponse out of firearms in games: Also, I agree on A3 having much chrisper sound design. Daemonkid 493 Posted March 24, 2014 Seriously? Expensive headsets? You don't need that shit. Go to sound ingame, soundsources or w/e is there. Turn that up to max.(Sounds are still wonky atm so really, a headset makes no difference)And if you're getting SHOT AT, you can tell the direction of the shooter based on the bullet impact. If the bullet hits the ground, it will kick dust up in a way the ID's the direction, you get shot at from you left, bullet will impact to the right of you, and dust will kick up at impact point scatter right.
