Aggro range

Recommended Posts

Ok, time for another random thought. Upon bleeding a character gets a debuff (which is invisible to the player on their screen. I don't mean some warcraft based row of icons on the top of the screen) that increases zombie non-LOS aggro range by 100%. My rationale behind this is the scent of blood in the air would draw zombies for a meal. Think of two players in electro and one of them shoots the other. Now zombies are drawn to the source of the sound but one of those players is bleeding, so the zombies would head for the smell of blood.

Once bandaged, the debuff drops to 50% increased aggro range until the player can rinse the blood from themselves or get rid of the bloody clothes. Your thoughts?

Hmm... I would think of it as it would make sense. On other hand, people would feel extremely comfortable shooting others while at it. Right now it is more like decision between options if the shot is worth the trouble with infected. Then it would rather be like, "oh, hey. I can totally screw that guy over by shooting him in the legs, break the bones and watch him getting eaten by infected. why wouldn't I do it? I'll do it."

Otherwise, interesting but maybe it would bring more bad than good.

I agree with your suggestion but it should be like the shooter wouldn't just get away with it by simply turning around and walking away.

I think its safe to say the infected are somewhat feral in nature. If an animal in the wild is presented with two choices for prey, one being a mobile healthy choice and the other being a wounded slow choice which would they go for?

As I said, that would make sense. But... etc etc.

I would vote for it if it was possible to try this system for some period and see how it would affect banditry. It would maybe make a more life-like situations though. Like when a guy is escaping from infected, sees another random survivor and wounds him just to survive himself. That would be decent thing actually. I mean, better anyone else than me, am I right? In a survival- meaning, of course. It wouldn't be a decent thing to do. :D

Beans.

I agree with this, although if this were to be implemented I would like some more intense visual indicators you were bleeding, such as tinnitus, tunnel vision perhaps, and an audible, although not too loud, sound of your own heartbeat. These would be simple filters over the screen, or for the case of sounds a non-diagetic audio file. It would mean you actually notice that you've been cut, so that you are more aware to the new dangers added by the attraction to blood the zombies now have.

This would penalise new players. I usually get hit at least once when looking for a melee weapon and often have to run out of range so I've not hounded by zombies when I'm trying to loot houses. Getting hit and then being followed by all the zombies in the vicinity sounds like it'd be horrible for someone without a weapon.

However, if stealth was more of an option or if zombies slapping you with their wrinkly hands rarely caused bleeding then I think it'd be a pretty neat addition.
