Zombie spawning

Have to agree with the sceptical people here... The new spawn system is just awfull, but somehow many of the people who otherwise scream for more realism and whatever praise an endless stream of zombies just popping up in front of your nose.. Yeah thats really what we wanted to have.

 

And the "this is a placeholder" argument: Why even implement such a crappy system as a placeholder? And if they have been working on this for weeks: About everyone should be able to see how simple this respawn system is to implement, there is nothing complicated or smart about it, if they spend weeks to work on this then... well...

THIS.  A thousand times THIS.   Open your eyes people.   It makes no sense to add such a messy broken feature for testing.  What can they learn from such a broken mess?

LOL.  Just give the zombies a few tweaks and it will be good to go?  Are you fucking serious?  The devs have failed to improve zombie collision and AI for 2 years.   What evidence do you have that DayZ will ever be able to fix zombies or how they spawn?

 

Well, the team that will primarily be handling all of this was just put in place like what, a month ago?

 

So i'd advise having a seat and waiting it out. It will happen.

Thanks for that and yes very useful advice always use axes to kill zombies because in a post-apocalyptic Zombie world if you dare to shoot any type of firearm Zombies have the ability to teleport on your location. Brad Pitt got it all wrong in world war Z they should have all been using axes and swords. But seriously if they want us to be silent then fix the silences on the guns or give us Full Plate Armour swords and shields.

i'm a little worried logging out now that the spawning rate is so high. need to go to higher ground somewhere to be safer. then again, for the first time in my DayZ SA history i saw a zombie run upstairs to the top level floor in a 3 story building. needless to say, i was shocked.

This happened to me earlier, was running up 3rd or 4th floor of medical buildings, as I turn the corner there's a Zed standing there. We kind of stared longingly into one another, before I murdered it.

pre-patch I was looking forward to zombies spawning. Finally, a bit of life (or more undeath) being added to the game.

Now having played it, I have to say I hate the way zombies spawn.

I spent 20 minutes almost getting killed by zombies in Krasnostav. I couldn't bandage because the zombies were spawning so quickly that before I could bandage, more had spawned and were on top of me.

I ran to the outskirts, blood pissing out of me, but still they kept spawning all around me.

I managed to bandage but was immediately smacked by another zombie and started bleeding again

I ran further out of town. Still they kept coming.

I ran further. I'm now in the middle of a field well outside town.

Guess what. Zombies are appearing out of thin air and coming for me.

In my escape from town, I got through 2 sks snap loaders, 5 magnum snap loaders, 1 fnx45 mag and 2 of the new 22 pistol mags.

1 bullet per zombie.

Now I really wanted some more action in the game, but damn, having to go through 50 rounds of ammo to just be able to bandage is really taking the piss a little. Surely they've pushed things a little TOO far in the opposite direction.

It could have been a little more fun, but the fact that I could see zombies pop into existence all around the field and immediately turn and start running at me really detracted from the game.

 

Bottom line -

More zombies = good but surely it can be better implemented than this?

I can see it now... "This game is so stupid! Why must I walk in my plate mail armor?!? Impossible to run or sneak up on anyone with these stupid game mechanics!"

Don't run out into a field when u only need to climb a handful of steps that are closer to you.

I logged on the update yesterday, expecting more zombies but also expecting them to still be piss easy…i was wrong; I almost lost my 3 week old character and I managed to survive and learn from my mistake quick.

Guilty as charged. I never had the mod or Arma II.

But like a new pair of shoes, it might be a bit uncomfortable to start with, but they just need wearing in  :)

They shouldn't have added more zombies/respawning zombies until they fix the zombie pathing. It's extremely frustrating playing the new patch as it currently stands.

Or perhaps their ability to walk through walls.

I guess i was lucky in that I wasn't backed into a room with a never ending stream of zombies coming through the walls and blocking my escape.

That's what I meant when I mentioned their pathing. They can walk through walls, they can block you in rooms now, they spawn randomly out of thin air; all of that combined with the new "melee system" makes playing this game a headache.

 

I seem to remember many forum members here claiming that zombie AI and pathing were going to be one of the last things worked on in DayZ. Let's see if the same people defend the developers' decision to add a fuckton more of them while they're still broken as hell.

I agree with this. Since this is the first release of this type of system, just give them a couple of patches to tweak it and I think they will be good to go. Couple those tweaks with AI pathing and I think we'll have exactly what we're looking for.

I can't understand why they didn't work out the broken zombie spawning on the experimental. There's absolutely no reason why they should bring such a broken mechanic on stable servers when they got the feedback they needed on experimental. I spent 5 minutes killing the same zombie over and over because I was cornered by a guy and couldn't leave the immediate area. A zombie aggro'd on me and I kept killing him and each and every clone of his popping out as soon as the last one was dead and immediately attacking me. FYI I used an axe, not a gun to kill them. It's very frustrating to play like that and that has already been said during the experimental server test.

Reading many of the posts, most players dislike the new patch and hopefully it will change. Many have come up with valid suggestions on possible fixes and others prefer to remind us to "man up" or "it is only Alpha" yes to both but players have to ENJOY the game as well. A game with only a couple of hundred hard-core players is not going to work and mechanic's has to work for all.

 

My suggestion's repeating many others would be:-

 

1. Add working silences (they are already in game) for stealth players.

2. Bigger initial spawns, 30 plus in groups.

 

You cant please all the people all of the time, but you can P*** them off.

The spawning zombies is great, it adds challenge to the game even if there are no other players around.

 

I think one big mistake was adding this feature BEFORE zombie pathing was fixed. In the last two days I have had multiple incidents of hiding in a house while bandaging, eating, drinking, going through inventory, whatever, and a zombie spawns 20 or 30 feet away. The zombies aggros right away runs through the wall of the house, and before I know I am in danger I am getting smacked around by one or more zombies.

 

I can also attest that killing zombies with a melee weapon does not help. Game issues can quite often result in you getting hit and even a silent axe kill can cause another zombie to spawn.

 

 

The "realism" of zombies coming out of thin air can also get annoying. What might be good to see is piles of dead zombies and people all over the map. If you do something within a certain distance of these piles you have a chance of a zombie "waking up". The zombie would spawn by appearing to stand up the way a player does from a laying position and chase after you.

 

This would allow you to easily control how much zombies spawn based on how many piles you put on the map (I am thinking at least a couple hundred) and how far the range is that a pile can "hear" something and spawn a zombie.

How is that truly amazing when I have watched zombies climb stairs with no problem now?
