Looking For Veteran Advice On Best Dayz Mods

So, as I've never played the Arma II Mod and I've got a lot of time to fill between substantive SA updates, I'd like to spend some of that time playing the Mod.  As you know there are lots of choices for the Mod now so I thought I'd get the veteran player community's advice on this issue.

 

In the little research I've done it seems like Epoch is the way to go, but I'd like to hear other opinions

For me vanilla has always been the "best", most of the other ones are to exagurrated and bring to much crap to the game, along with good features, dont get me wrong, but to much crap :)

Ohh and i reported your thread, so it can get moved to the mod section of the forums, where it belongs :)

Namalsk is a PVP blast where most of the buildings are military loot. I've gone from zero to geared in 15 minutes there.

 

Origins is very good, basically dayZ+extras on a very well designed Taviana Map. Taviana is the same as basic dayZ with some new vehicles.

 

Epoch is the mod to go to apparently, but I never really played it much.

The origins build system was quite interesting but it took too much effort to create a home with all the groups KoSing 24/7. You can get something similiar with Epoch by now you just have be careful to choose a good server and not a 24/7, AS 50 starting gear, 50 million gold, trader safezone ( have only found one server without safezone so far ) server. Vanilla is still quite interesting although lacking because it's secondary to the SA. I'm just waiting for Epoch to use the same gear system from vanilla then i think i'll be happy with it.

Of course you're right this is technically the right thread, but I'll get 100x views and responses in the SA thread...and the topic is at least loosely tied to the SA since I'm asking so I can kill time during SA development.

That's not how it works I'm afraid. xD

 

Anyway, on topic - vanilla DayZ mod is the best IMO. Try and find a proper vanilla server that doesn't have a million and one vehicles and a load of custom scripts to make the game easier though.

I have always been a vanilla Dayz fan, I started on it and the feeling of survival was great. Now that most servers run epoch I find myself waiting for more features in Standalone but still find time to get on for some vanilla Dayz mod.

There are only 2 true Vanilla servers with a grand total of 23 players. Im not including the Russian No CD server. Maybe not such a good suggestion.

I did say "try". xD

 

AWA used to have pretty good vanilla servers before DayZ was released. I can't say I've played the mod since so I can't really help with current servers.

I wish there were more players that wanted to actually play true Vanilla. Sadly there are not.
