Back on the mod, there used to be a general policy in certain circles of not commiting murder of any kind on holy ground (IE: Churches and graveyards)

Do people still keep to this? Should people still keep to this?

what a funny question, I'm not a member of any "certain circle" and my general policy is "stay alive". you shoot at me and run to the church I'm coming for you there too.

Well, gee,i feel kind of wrong about it.

And the churches in the game even show the Saints illustrated.

Even if it's a game,it's like some unwritten law not to shoot in church.

For me at least, for other people, that might just be superstition.

ugh a church is just another building and a cemetery is just another piece of ground. the brass tacks of holiness lie in the heart of the individual not the location where that individual decides to gun you down. just sayin.

I'm not religious. Its more a matter of respect for others than an acknowledgement of faith. The general idea was to provide a safe-ish place for the wounded or non-hostile to get aid in the place sombody is least likely to let fly. I've had people pop shots at me and then hide in the church - I either leave them be or wait for them to leave.

I thought russian churches *were* orthodox.

Hmm.. This is interesting. The concept is good and in the Mod this worked fairly well but only because it grew over time, As i've seen a lot of Standalone players haven't played the Mod very much or at all so this idea is completely new to them, It's possible over time a certain rule like this may come into play but there is always that one person that will come in saying "Im friendly" just moments before he shoots everyone in Elektro's church.

You misunderstood my post, I dont enter them in game from the respect towards my religion.I also found it rather insulting having priest zombies in the mod, but thats just my opinion.

You make being orthodox sound like muslim extremism or something like that, its not really that different from catholic christianism except for some "political" differences and ritual protocols

This thread is not a religious debate. Keep the "Muh god bettah than your god" arguments out of it.

You make a thread about "holy ground" and respect but expect people to not talk about religion? You are trolling, besides you clearly didn't understand my post

Pf don't be a hater. Everyone can be an extremist, no matter what he beliefs. But an extremist-buddhist would be something interesting....

And what about deerstands? I mean, there is for sure a religion where deerstands are holy. Or cowbarns for hindus? Or *hm* sheep barns for christians?

Edit: Disclaimer: Don't feel offended. I really don't care whom you worship or why. It's your business and yours alone as long as it makes you happy and you don't hurt anybody. I don't look down on any religons (well, scientology, but that's not really a religion. Oh and jehovas witnesses. I mean, what the fuck is wrong dudes? Do I ring at 7 in the morning at your door and ask you if you know the Flying Spaghetti Monster?)

-----------on topic:

One of the first notable things that happened to my buddy psycho and me in the SA was the following situation:

We came to Novy and looted our way carefully through it. As we reach the church, I look inside and see someone standing in a corner, three zeds around him, he punches wild, but with no effect. I storm in, kill the Zs with my axe, and asks him if he is okay, the guy waves at me and starts bandaging himself. Psycho looks inside the corner, brings up his Mosin and headshots him. One of the reasons, why I call him "Psycho" when I refer to him in this game.

...so...well...no. Nothing can save you in DayZ.

I've never known a church to be a safe ground and in the mod you had to be careful as it was one of the few lootable buildings. The only safe ground is you on top of a building looking down at someone and using 3rd person with no other higher places around you to get sniped from. From that position you can talk to the entire world as they walk by ;)

Can't get your point across without calling names and hurling insults... LOL!

I don't believe in any gods and will not hesitate to murder anyone on "holy" ground.

I don't keep gods either, does not stop me from respecting those who do.

respect is something that is earned not just given, having said that - you earn my respect and you are safe from me no matter where you are (at least until you start shooting my way at which point I loose all respect and we are at square one). for some perspective... daddy was a preacher and he taught us that the church building is just a building the real church is the people.
