Try not to freak out

No update today during maintenance.

Major big being fixed.

Would you rather have a broken update or a stable one pushed to "stable"?

See Hicks' tweet a few minutes ago....

No update with todays maintenance, however - Our programming team has narrowed down the fix on the blocking bug.

I'd rather have a stable update full stop. Every single update since I bought the game in December has had a bug attached to it.

I'm not bothered about a new hat or jacket lol.

That's pretty much what I tweeted back at him..

I'd rather have a stable update pushed to stable than an unstable one...but the suspense!

The thing is that they shouldn't make promises they can't keep. If they would have said that the update will be delayed for lets say 2 weeks previous wednesday I would have no problem with it. But why just keep hyping people and than say "oh sorry, no update today"...

I'm guessing their ESP system has bugs in it.

If patch delays are too much to deal with, try getting on experimental branch where updates are plentiful.

Did you really just say this? You must lead a very simple life or be very fortunate.

I currently have three projects going for work because two of them are in development cycles. I have to plan next week based on juggling those three projects because two of them might be delayed because of testing failures. It happens.

As I've said before, the dev team shoots themselves in the foot being so open to the community.

There are no "promises". "You promised!!!" Should go away with puberty at the latest.

Actually, I agree very much with what you said.

I'd rather they fix major bugs than push out unstable updates.

Anyone who wonders why the patch has not been moved to stable only needs to play on the experimental and you can see the reasons there. If you are disappointed the update is not on stable, simply go play on experimental and you can see these changes. You also quickly see issues as to why it is not out on stable.

Believe me: we want this patch out much more than the community. Because continuing like this is a major headache for development as branching and merging becomes an absolute nightmare. This is occurring at the same time as us finishing our planning/roadmap process and starting up our new feature scrums. However, this desire doesn't change the fact that for the patch to be pushed onto stable we must not introduce new serious, game-breaking bugs.

Currently we are tracking two new major issues that we see as being blockers:

Invisible Characters/Zombies

We believe this is caused by them becoming stuck in geometry on client(s) and therefore rejecting new updates. In order to fix this our QA has been going back through different build revisions and checking to see if this occurs so we could isolate the exact point in development it started occurring. That was an extremely labor intensive process and through this we managed to narrow it down to an exact revision that caused the issue.

Now that we have found out exactly when that occurred, we start to look into why that happened. Once we fully understand the project we can implement the solution. The problem is that these are not simple issues or bugs, they are complex bugs that can result from a variety of factors. They can be caused by multiple issues, or simply just a symptom of a much wider problem. They are also often very hard to reproduce, and are exceptionally difficult to produce estimates for on fixing.

Network pauses roughly every 30 seconds

This recently appeared on experimental, and has been noticed by many. What happens is regularly the server stops sending updates for a second or so, which is caused by the server hard-locking for some reason. It lasts only a second before the server starts sending updates again. It looks like desync or rubber-banding for the client.

The current most popular theory for this is currently that the Experimental Server Architecture itself is causing the issue. I.e. the Experimental "Hive" central database simply cannot handle the load, and therefore when a players is killed or dies, the updates are delayed and the server is forced to stop and wait for the central server to respond. I've vastly oversimplifying the issue but I am sure you get the point. We're again testing this in detail with our 30 fulltime, onsite, QA staff. It's a huge job and it's been a major effort.

I'm confused though... I thought those current issues are happening on experimental right now, not on the experimental of over a week ago that we never got the update for? That one seemed totally fine whe I played it. Why can't we just have that one? ;)

It doesn't really bother me though. I got pretty annoyed being spammed with "your clothes are getting wet!" "You're clothes are soaked through!" Or whatever was happening there

It sounds to me like one of these major bugs appeared a few versions back. I wouldn't expect a stable version update for every experimental version update either. But that's just me.

So this may be the first update that didnt make the game worse?   Thats a hell of a fucking claim.

Maybe they are just starting to pull the nose up on this project.

Are any of the following addressed in the next update?

Glitched zombies

no hit detection resulting in every item being ruined from magic bullets

items take 2 minutes to appear when you move them on servers with more than 20 people

ammo disappearing

cant load SKS or mosin from painting glitch

Id rather have zero new items or features until these are fixed.

Good to hear that! There is a light at the end of the tunnel, despite of what doom sayers yell.

Quote from Dean.......

" its labor intensive and we are using all 30 of our staff"

Hey Dean, thats why Star Citizen has 218 full time staff members.   More talent and more experience finds issues faster and fixes them faster.

Where did the 30 plus million dollars go?

Rick, this has been discussed before.

Throwing people at a project won't make it happen faster. If anything it will hinder it.

Not sure about that entire list but I have read that number 3 and the last one you mention is indeed fixed.

To people who:

A. Are not Dean Hall

and

B. Might not necessarily want to put it all back into DayZ or all at once

It is worth noting that they have expanded their team already. But as I say, Rocket will obviously take a slice of the money but its not all his, nor is it his job to delegate it.

The man leading the star citizen project disagrees.  And he is a legend in the game industry.  He has never heard of Dean before.  So who do you think is right?

Fine, that's what he thinks.

Lets look at it this way:

Your doing some homework, but your having trouble. Would you rather have three people tellibg you how to do it and helping you, or twenty.

Odds are, having twenty people trying to do one thing would get confusing, crowded and complicated.

If the staff now can handle it, let them

I see what you mean.  But its all in how you organize the staff.

I've worked for large companies and small companies. Managing a project with a large team can be great, but you can't be very agile. You have to have pretty rigid plans to keep everything productive. You can't adapt easily to change. Small teams can. If They're serious about adapting the game as they go, 30 people sounds about right. 200 would make that impossible.

so is star citizen playable yet? and I mean the whole game not just the hangars. I've been watching it for 2 years now waiting for something playable and so far all I've seen are the silly hangars where you can walk around your unflyable ships. at least for my 30 bucks I can play this now warts and all its still better than nothing.

Why are people so upset about there being no update, don't you stable people only get one every two (or four) weeks? There was one last week.

I know experimental updates a lot more often, but stable simply doesn't get an update every week as far as I am aware. Also the current version on experimental is an utter catastrophe, you don't even want it on stable trust me.

Pfff, what's an invisible player/zombie or two to worry about?  People are going to scream hacks either way.  Just put it out damnit :p
