Underground Military Complex

Recommended Posts

I realise that this idea will get both a lot of love and a lot of hate, so I'll make it brief.

What I propose is that the Devs add in Underground Complexes that work in a similar way to the NW Airbase in terms of loot, but as they can't be made hazardous by Bandits sniping over the area, instead have Sarin Gas leaks that require gas masks to be worn before entering the premises, otherwise the players will perish, fast.

The Soviet Union was known to use Sarin Gas for Military purposes, and when Sarin gas was outlawed by the Chemical Weapons Convention of 1993, it was to be destroyed, although as of May 2012, Russia had only destroyed around 57% of their Sarin stockpiles, thereby leaving this a possible reason these Military bunkers would have such stockpiles.

The locations of these Bunkers could be in reasonable areas so the NW Airfield or Heli Crashes wouldn't be the only places to get "phat loot". As these Bunkers can't be watched by other players as easily (but for their entrances, of which there would likely be many), they come with added risks as stated above.

This provides a way to add more locations for good loot without forcing the Developers to expand the map's size further.

EDIT: I would even be willing to create some gas mask and filter 3D models for the purpose, as I have experience with 3D modeling and animation as I'm currently studying Games Dev as a major.

Nice idea, but simply not possible until arma 3.

Underground spaces cannot be added to the existing map.

The only way this would work, is how it works on a mission I played on the Invasion 1944 mod (WW2 Western Front). Basically, an underground bunker entrance would despawn the player and respawn them in an off-map, indoor location. It would add more playing space, but I think the disadvantages, in terms of adding to the Deathmatch nonsense, as well as server load and increase of glitch-chance would outweight the benefits.

I will still make this a reality, regardless of engine limitations.

If the DayZ team see fit to use this in their mod (if ARMA3 supports it) then I can give them the whole area and let them tweak it how they wish. If not, then I have a game level in my portfolio I could make use of in the future in any game that I'm a part of that wants it.

shame about the not being able to have a bunker, but maybe there could be a use for gas mask's maybe like you could find like tear gas canisters or something similar

+1 for the idea tho

Well, we *could* have a bunker, but it would teleport us to a place off the map, which would be kinda annoying to set up. However, as I said, I'll develop the bunker anyway and hope that Rocket likes the idea, and that its possible in ARMA3.

I'll post updates and screenshots in this thread as I work on it.

Awesome idea. I think I read one of the Rocket interviews where he says he likes the idea of underground bunkers and Arma 3 will allow him to use them.

The gask mask thing would be awesome as well, and would make the M4 (what ever they call it in this game) shotgun from Benelli more useful, or other CQB type weapons.

I really like the sound of having areas that can only be explored once a piece of kit has been found.

I agree. Also what if the lights were off down there, or at least parts. Imagine how creepy it would be walking down there with a gas mask on and a flash light or flares lighting the way. :)

That reminds me of an area in STALKER: Call of Pripyat. 'twas one of the scariest parts of the game. Didn't know where or when some horrors would jump out to take a swipe at you, it was awesome.

On the subject of new loot areas, I'd love to see the Aircraft Carrier from that other map (I can't recall the name of it) put into the ocean somewhere, with all the lights below deck off and filled with ludicrous amounts of zombie spawns, although I am pretty sure that there's already been a thread about that somewhere.

Only teams of players who have access to a Helicopter or a Boat could raid it, and it would require NVGs to survive, as flares/flashlights/other lights would simply cause death by hundreds of Zeds.

You can still have your "bunker". I remember custom objects in Operation Flashpoint, where someone made various buildings which resembled a biolab, and more. You could enter it and even interact with buttons and objects inside, to open doors, etc.

The only "catch" ? It would not be "underground". Still, you could make a big / giant building / bunker / lab that players and zombies can enter, and there you go.

Some of these Suggestions are pretty decent i mean with the amount of space on the map you could find a good area for example to put a research base or something similar and like one of the things you could find in there could be like a hazmat suit kind of skin or something similar

Remember you need SOME source of light for NVGs to work properly. They only amplify existing light, not see in total darkness. So if the lights are out, and you were underground, you'd really have to risk the light sources in these cramped labyrinths, and exploring these abandoned labs and missile bases by the light of sparking red road flares is about the creepiest-coolest thing I can imagine.

I had this idea too when saw the Arma3 would make underground buildings possible. Really can't wait for something like this in the game, especially because of the total lack of light. Should be the only possible place to find NVGs!! :D
