Are we playing DayZ wrong...

Recommended Posts

...because we are having so much fun doing it?

Reading up on all the complaints on the forum I wonder what we are doing differently?

We are playing in a group of 5 people (sometimes joined by guests) in various combinations and sometimes solo.

We are a diverse group, 4 guys at the age of 23, 29, 35 and 36 and a girl of 25, each with their own approach to the game in respect of serious- vs. sillyness and very different "video game" backgrounds from veteran FPS'er to casual mobile game player. Some of us are married with children.

We try to employ the "Hero Style" when we play as best we can, that is NEVER to shoot before being shot at and try to help other players as much as we can with advice, food, ammo, weapons and sometimes (as far as our comprehension of the situation goes) bloody, justified vengance. We are working on a homepage with a freely acessible Teamspeak Server where you can ask us for help if you need any of the above.

Every session has always been a rewarding experience for all of us, no matter the sometimes dire consequences. Every encounter with other players is new and exciting. After a good combined 700hrs into the game no aspect of it has become boring or a chore. It feels as good revisiting places as it feels to discover new ones. There are times when it feels like we haven't been in Berezino for weeks and we cannot wait to get there. New features that enter the game make us superhappy every time - I cannot tell you how excited I am about my camouflaged Mosin - it is the coolest thing I have ever seen. And "Eat All"? That's just mindblowing stuff!!! ;)

I do not want to say "this is how to play to have fun" - because if everyone's a hero... you know :)

BUT I want to address the issue, that if you complain that the game is always ENDING the same - being cut to a black screen for "no good reason" - you should make the time matter BEFORE the game ends. Otherwise this might be better suited and easier accessible than DayZ: http://www.deerhuntinggames.net/play/14/moorhuhn.html

Happy surviving!

PS: I'm looking very much forward to Titanfall as a way to balance out the slow pace and heart-pacing intenseness that DayZ can be and hope that my group will join me there as well.

THere is no wrong way to play it. I do, however, think that the kids  mistaking this game for CoD are missing out.

I hate how some take this as a pure PVP game, which means you must get the best stuff and then you're free to kill people. I see human interaction a lot better than just killing. If you could at least force someone to his knees and execute him, that would be a lot cooler than just shooting.

Anyways, if I see someone, I'll ask does he need anything and does he have anything for me, but I usually don't ask them to team up with me.
