spawning facing north?

Recommended Posts

Sup guise

Started playing yesterday, so pls no hate

I've heard in some yt video that one's character always spawns facing north. Meaning that when spawning on the east coast the sea will be to your right, while when spawning on the south coast the sea will be behind you.

I haven't seen this mentioned in any of the guides I've read here, so can anybody confirm this?

I can't confirm that. If I had to guess, I'd say I always look inland (west for 90% of the time) when I spawn, but I haven't paid much attention to it tbh...

My theory is that player faces point zero of the map  (Stary Sobor).

Don't take my word or quote me on that.

Point zero would not be Stary, but this: [0,0,0], which is far SE in the sea (on ARMA 2 anyway).

But I guess it'll be compass direction 0, which is north. Anything you usually spawn in on ARMA 2, ARMA 3, or anything will always be facing north. As long as they did not include a separate setDir (read: setDirection / CompassDirection) which would change the way you are facing, you will always face north upon spawn. Not when you're logging back in, though - as the Database saves the direction you're facing.

You are probably correct, the thing that made me question the Nth theory was random/roaming Z's that were at one point added to the Mod, someone (R4ZOR or Alby) explained to me that they would always head to point zero (Stary) which I assumed was the diagonal center of the spawn radius.

I could well be barking up the wrong tree completely, as usual (Mod/SA & +).

I will however take more notice in future.

Naw, when I spawn near Berezino, I am always facing Berezino.

If I had to guess I would say it's because it's the "Center" of the map. That is part of the way ARMA works, as you have to have a Center for your Group, which is Novy Sobor. Sometimes when the spawnmechanic fails / is interrupted you spawn ontop of the center, which is widely known as "The Novy-Spawn".

I guess the part that they actually roam towards that is a gameplay mechanic customly tailored by R4Z0R and doesn't have to do with the engine itself. I will just ask R4Z0R real quick.

Added to To-Do List:

  • Get killed multiple times to test directionality of spawn

At least it won't take too long....
