Real Hardcore Mode

So I was playing Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 2, and it finally dawned on me that the big difference between DayZ & 'traditional' zombies is 'traditional' zombies have a one hit kill (infection).

 

What are your thoughts on this and how it changes your calculations on playing with other people? Does it just increase the frustration level if you die anytime a Zed hits you, without altering the desire to team up with strangers?

Im all good with that too! But, I think a small tweak would be hitting and biting that way if you kill before they get to bite but they scrapped you, you could still live. But still I wouldn't kill anybody just to team for that shit. BEANS FO YOU MY GOOD SIR!!!

*Sigh* You do know that the "zombies" in DayZ are not undead right? They're infected individuals that are the hosts of an unknown virus that enrages them into a ravage frenzy. I would not see a rotting corpse being able to run or dying conventionally. Also, it would be said that the players in the game are immune to the virus. Why? Well, we might never know, but that's that. People would rage a lot when they get insta-killed by a sprinting zombie behind them without them ever knowing.

 

Also, I'm just damn tired of these "normal" zombies. I'm tired of the undead. What I would want them to be, is just infected people, and that's it.

Meh, I think zombies should not be the main focus in DayZ. Interaction with other players should be... and that's pretty much what it always been.

Dean did say that these are infected living humans in terms of enraged people from 28 days later.

As soon as modding is allowed I'm going to make a DayS mod where the "S" stands for survival and I remove all the fucking zombies.

As soon as modding is allowed I'm going to make a DayS mod where the "S" stands for survival and I remove all the fucking zombies.

Expect a lot of people losing interest on that mod of your though. DayZ's original mod concept was pure survival but it didn't draw any interest, so Dean added zombies.

Your opinion man. Although my opinion is to stay with the current one, since zombies will soon have the ability to outrun you and you would be forced to use your head instead of running in a general direction until the zombie loses interest in you.

Did he even watch 28 Days Later?  If he did, he would have noticed that there would be no making those people normal again with some kind of antidote.  To claim that the zombies are living humans would mean you could bring them back to normal.  Yeah, let's see what kind of shape you're in after you puke out your insides and leak almost every bit of your blood from your eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and genitalia.

If players were to be able to die from a one hit kill it would be fun, but only if it were possible (but very difficult ) to find a cure

Zero or Zombies...I was expecting undeads are powerful, strong etc., like Zs we know from movies. It's about playing in apocalyptic time, so Zs should be tough. 80% of players are scared to meet another players instead of Zs. It's not that I don't like it, but it's just not right. Make them hardcore, or at least higher % of brain flu, broken bones, stuff like that.

We had zombies that were basically one hit kills during one of the later vanilla mod updates.. it was insane, and about 5-10% of the community liked it.

It would be nice to have infected be a bigger threat, but too many will shed tears about it.

 

Look back a year or so ago, when infection was introduced into the mod.

That's only because most players by then only wanted pvp and all the people who bought it for a zombie game had left and stopped playing by that point

I didn't play mod, dunno...

Maybe I'm old to understand their point or idea of playing or what they want from survival game. If you buy this game and obviously, you know what it is about, would you then complain about Zs? Cause they can kill you with one punch, kick, whatever? Come on! It's wrong game for them then. 80% Youtube videos are like, PvP airfield gunfight, Z is chasing one guy, but he doesn't give a s*t about Z, he acts like it's not there. He gets couple of hits but he's focused just how to kill another player. Is it just me...?

Maybe they'll do something with them in next patch, or another, or that one after....I'd be happy.

Infection is on the dev roadmap, just have to hang tight.

 

Disease as well.

 

A true hardcore mode requires three main things before anything else.

 

- 1PP as we have but TRUE server side - no 3PP ESP scripts. Sorry.

- forced night/day cycle - cycle duration at server admin discretion

- specific gamma curve for night time - high white yield - so no tweaking can be done after dark

 

After that is set in stone we can go through the core mechanics of health, combat, loot.
